hi all i bouth a saxo with a broken engine i got a jp4 engine from a xsara and i was wondering is it realy hard to change the camshafts? i heard people doing 140 bhp with j4 cams and few breathing mods. so while the engine is out its maybe a good idea.

#4Well it would be my first time for changing camshafts. so I think I will just get a garage to do it later on.

#6The cam belt is no problem just about swapping them is the question. I know how to change the belt.

#9If you know what you are doing with cam belt. All you have to do is take the covers and carriers off to change the cams once out swap over the pulley cogs

#10Lock cam pulleys, mark up the crank pulley then Take belt off.
Cam covers off, then just take the cam ladders off with be bolts that will be revealed.
Swap the camshafts, cam ladders back on, cam covers on. Then rotate the cam pulleys and lock them into the holes again, and make sure the crank pulley hasn't moved.
Belt back on, tension, done.

Or you could just shove a 5mm Allen key in to lock the flywheel ?

you'd be as well fitting cams designed for a JP4 engine, it'll perform much better. -
#15Ok now í understand it's not a very big job but if I use the j4 ecu would it be beter than just put the jp4 in. Because mapping is out of the question because nobody in Iceland can do this.

the JP4 has a different compression ratio and larger valves than a J4.
I think you'll find the JP4 engine (110) as standard will pull a lot better than a J4. Due to it's physical design, the JP4 produces much better torque in the mid range.
Don't forget you need to drill and tap the JP4 cylinder head to fit the original J4 inlet manifold. From memory, JP4 has electronic throttle which can't be converted to cable style.1 user thanked this post: -

the jp4 makes 110 ?100rpm less than the je makes 120 --so inreal terms will be very little differnce
if changing cams change springs and caps etc--jp4 are not meanto rev to 7200 --only 6200--they are weaker
if swopping fit 0/6gasket with jp4 or comp will drop

but even so, would still mark yo just in case
