Second fuel pump wiring

    Evening guys. Anybody know which wires I need to splice into to get my Bosch 044 pump working. I've got these colours on the plug for the standard pump

    Blue
    Pinky brown
    Green
    Yellow

    Did it on mine a couple of years ago but can't remember. Look at the wiring diagram,that's what I did.

    hope you using a relay --wiring won,t like taking current from both pumps
    just get a meter and try which wire becomes live when you turn on ignition --then goes off until you crank over the engine --thats the fuel pump feed --use that to work your relay and run seperate feed to the relay as well to power the pump when relay pulled in

    Nope,no relay.never thought of that to be honest.if it stops working I will do it but working fine at mo

    so when it melts the wiring loom into one lump --you will fix it then ?

    044s pull a fair ol chunk of amps.. piggy backing them straight into the standard harness is sketchy...

    To be fair it's not an 044 pump,lot less powerful.not doing much mileage either.if it melts the wiring then yes I will do it but would think the fuse would blow first if the ampage was too great as it's all standard ratings.

    I've spent far too much time on the car to watch it go up in flames due to skimping on some dodgy wiring.

    I can't crank the car over as I'm sending my loom to sandy to get a dta wired in . Any other suggestions?

    044 pump draws 15.5amps. Pump on my car draws 6.5 amps.

    simple tell sandy and he will leave you a wire to connect relay too
    --why would sandy not be your first man to ask as he is doing your loom -??
    -no harm to anybody --but why ask a load of ameatuers when you are already using a professional ?

    has anybody else given the man the CORRECT way to do it ?
    it more the fact that he is already entrusting his loom to sandy a professional --so why not ask him the way to do it --as he would want it to be wired the correct way if connected to his loom .
    amateurs? --well if you going to double or treble the current on std wiring and think that is ok hard wired in -- then YES

    but yes, you take the term amateur as a derogatory comment --maybe i should have said bodgers as an amatuer someone who doesn,t do it as a profession and i,m sure there are lots of them that know the right way and would not short cut on such jobs -- so i will apologise to any good amateurs out there

    you are probably right --just as well i don,t have to rely on dealing with people who can,t take the truth
    but suprising how many phone calls i get from people wanting REAL tech help
    why do you think you get very few real professionals coming on these forums --cos of all the know it all -know bugger all that get upset when they get told how it really is
    too old for that --yes i can be grumpy when the facts are given and get replies which try to make it seem like i,m not right + try to belittle the near 50 years of motor prepation experience--when i know I am right

    I agree with you that as the wiring is at a professional wiring guy let him do the wiring correctly, no brainer,and yes I told him the correct way,look at a wiring diagram! As for adding 6.5 amps draw to standard fuel pump wiring which is rated higher than the fuse can't be a problem can it?.if I was running a high ampage 044 pump then yes a relay would be needed as the wiring would have burnt out by now!.

    the reason why the fuse is higher value than the calculated load is the surge you get when the circuit is first turned on ,but to keep same saftey margin as the maker decided it needed then fuse will be too small +therefore so will the wiring size ,and once you start to overload it has the effect of heating up the wire cos current draw rises when you try to push too much current through wrong size wire which over a period of time and melt the conductor through the wall of the insulating outer cover --nex step is to melt through other wire tied tight together in a the loom --which by its nature will get no cooling +then comes the possiblity of the full loom short +then fire
    as cars get older connections get corroded and again current draw rises --more heat etc etc -- even a poor earth in the circuit will lift the load -the car maker does not waste money on over size wiring --so doubling the load you just don,t do it -fit a relay and seperate feed for the new load
    you wouldn,t fit a pair of spot lights without going through a relay --big fuel pump is similar draw

    I'll say this & refrain from commenting anymore.I've seen enough experienced mechanics over the years totally fuck someones car up,the attitude of i'm a masterfit mechanic i've been to college is quite common in the motor trade,along with the customer knows fuck all let's fleece them.

    Basic automotive used to be part of the NVQ course for mechanics.

    I guess it depends. I have worked with senior electrical design engineers that started as auto electricians. They could diagnose and rewire pretty much anything. Although by the same token, I used to take my car to Stratstone BMW in Derby, the lads in there were fresh out of school and didn’t know their arse from their elbow – yet they had (I assume) some basic qualifications and were classed as qualified ‘technicians’ for BMW, working to resolve electrical issues.

    now you are getting really insulting to even mention master fit mechanics in this thread
    they are no better than the quick fit + all the other halfrauds and the like .
    not what i would call proper mechanics or technicians .
    the word mechanic has been in popular parlance down graded when a real mechanic could totally rebuild and engine /gearbox ,inc auto type ,as well as doing all motor electrics -- no such thing as an auto electrican when i started --you had to be able to do it all--now a mechanic is a grease monkey only fit for minor servicing --oil+filter and maybe plugs +points +adjust tappets at a push.
    as for NVQ --what a joke --but everyone must have a it of paper now to show they turned up and filled in a multi choice exam paper--which they were walked through before hand anyway
