What clutch?

    Hey guys.

As the title says i'm after a clutch and hopefully you guys can assist in which one I should go for?

I have recently just bought a new engine and gearbox for my GTI. The engine is running with proof 136.6bhp at the wheels with Newman PH3 cams, CatCam springs and a lightened and balanced flywheel.

Wanting a good all round clutch that's good for a bit of b road blasting but not going to cost me a bomb! (yet) At the moment there's a LUK clutch kit in there, dated from end of Jan this year and its completely f**ked!

Hope you can help me out!!

standard clutch should be fine for that if you don't abuse it.

As said the original equipment Valeo clutches are surprisingly good. Just be positive it is a genuine Valeo item and not some cheap pattern part. Some of the cheap ones failed to take even stock engines for long. If your after something a bit more aggressive Helix Autosport and AP Racing both used to offer unrated organic clutches that used to work well on fast road cars. No idea if they still sell them though.

Yeah the company that did the Flywheel said a valeo would be okay but they're having a look at some better solutions! I may check with Kam Racing though!

    ZF/Sachs
Cover (for late-type flywheel with equidistant cover bolts):- 883082001126
    Plate :- 881861999872
Don't bother with any other crap if you need to transmit good torque.

I'll post a picture of my flywheel, I think it may be the earlier type!

Where will I find this clutch?

It may just be the photo coming out a bit odd but the wear looks a bit odd. Is there substantially more wear at 4 and 10 o'clock or is it just the photo? May be worth laying a strait edge on it to check the face is true.

those are heat spots --which will have changed surface hardness of flywheel -- you should either get it machined or replace -- could cause clutch judder on take up of drive .
you could std type clutch and just double the upstand of the area which the plate sits on --that will give a little more capacity --make it 0.4mm instead of 0.2mm
If you are going to get it refaced

quite possibly caused by the lightening of the flywheel --less mass to absorb heat when you abuse it

That looks like it's had a 160 diameter clutch plate slipping its nuts off to me.

It is a later type flywheel.

I get Sachs/ZF stuff from Questmead in Rochdale. Speak to Steve, tell him you want the same ones I had (better give him the part numbers too come to think)
