VTS Loom

    Hi,

    Recently bought a 1997 VTS.

It had bike carbs on which I have taken of to try to restore it back to standard. I have the standard inlet and I'm waiting for the injectors, and injector loom today.

The problem I have is I'm worried that from it previously being tampered with it seems to me that there is no where to plug the injector loom into the main loom cable that runs around the back of the engine? I'm assuming that there would be a plug in point into the main loom for the injector loom to drop down and plug into?

Also on the tester plug that I found shoved under the ecu there is one small cable that has been cut, it then seems as if someone has wired another cable off of a junction that comes off just down from the tester plug and into the wing?

I have been told that there is also a low pressure pump where the fuel filter is that I will need to remove and wonder if he has tee'd of to get to that.

Im sure this must be hard to understand but if anyone could shed any like on anything that would be very helpful.

I would have uploaded pictures but couldn't see how.

    Thanks

Carbs need much less fuel pressure than injection does of course. The sensible way to get low pressure would have been to fit a low pressure regulator like a Renault 5 turbo or Metro/Montego turbo had. However, people don't always do what is sensible so it may have a low pressure fuel pump somewhere. As for the engine loom I would suggest you at least borrow a stock engine loom so you can compare what you have with standard.

If you're not absolutely confident it's probably a good idea to give your car to someone with experience and success doing that sort of work.

Where in the country are you?

    I'm in Cumbria,

I don't know if there is any kind of north west/Cumbria Saxo owners club it but would be very handy to compare off someone else's VTS.

If I can source a New Loom what (if any) are the differences between VTS/GTI wiring setups/connections. I've heard everything from the different models is compatible other than the ECU connection for the loom, so what kind of loom would I need as mine is a 1997 VTS and I'm sure I heard that on the later models the ECU connection changed.

Being a 97 it will be a single plug ecu but you also need to know if it is a single, twin (2 large plugs) or twin plug with small and large plug that connects just infront of the battery tray.

Match it up same as what you have and take it from there

So I've had a look and it seems to be one large plug that goes behind the battery, similar in size to the one plug that goes to the ecu? does this sound about right.

Are these two separate looms then? or are they both connected?

What's my next move as it looks like someone has made a bit of a mess with it? where is the best place to source a replacement or can you have them made? I'm looking to get this car restored on a budget and by myself.

    Thanks

    Some light reading

    Wiring diagram

Thread from on here on looms

And its lots of fun, spent hours going through my loom trying to work out why it wouldnt start couldn't find a problem realised the ecu had died

    Thanks for this

I was asking a few questions last night on FB because I've been worried that it looks like there is nowhere to plug the injector loom into the main loom but it didn't look to me as if it had been cut anywhere. I would have thought that there would be a visible connection point just behind the engine for the injector loom to drop down and connect but someone on FB believed that on the VTS the injector loom connected in at one of the connection points on the inlet manifold and somehow interfaced through there???????

Is this true........ I'm hoping so as this would mean I'm a lot more likely to salvage the rest my loom as I can have the EC+I's at work repair the other BODGED areas.

    Thanks

Ignore that last message, my loom has ben molested so I need a new one

if any one knows of any single plug looms let me know
