How to tell....

    Hi guys, today i did a compression test to my saxo vts to check how is doing!the numbers looked very good , about 235psi across the 4 cylinders cold engine .the thing is i cant tell if the head is skimmed or has a 206 head gasket or both. I want to put kent pt51 so its important to know whats going on....any ideas how to find that out....i also was told that the compression test numbers are very high for a std vts engine and probably the compression is raised. ..

    Sorry ,225psi not 235

    Advanced inlet cam timing also raises cranking compression so it's not necessarily got a higher compression ratio than stock, just because cranking pressure is up.

    That's true but timing is not advanced neither delayed ,i have changed the timing belt so I'm sure everything is in position citroen recommends. There is sime way i can find out if my head is skimmed with out opening the head???

    Forgive me if i'm wrong but won't you have to take the head off to fit the cam/s due to clearance issues getting them out?In which case you'd have to fit a new head gasket & cambelt etc.Unless of course you removed an engine mount & jacked the engine up to get clearance?

    Also i have read in the forum that an unskimmed head has about 135mm height . An unskimmed head i Greece has about 135,5 mm height.i confirmed that not only by measuring one in my own but' ive asked in one of the best machine shop,if im telling it correctly..

    I want to know how much room the valves have,thats why i'm trying to figure that out.i don't want to have any bent valves if i dial pt51 correctly. ..

    Lift the head.

    For the price of a set of headbolts (£15) and a headgasket it would be worth it for piece of mind if nothing else. Use the old plasticine trick on top of the pistons to check for valve clearance.
