Trouble starting after 2 years in storage

    Hi guys

I stored my little 1.1 desire rally car a few years ago and then ended up putting my back out, now after finally getting over an op I'm trying to get her running again. She wasnt turning over at all so I just fitted a new starter motor but now she screaming and shaking badly when I am trying to start her up

I have only tried a few times because I dont wont to cause any permanant damage

Any suggestions would be much appreciated (see video links below)

Oh yeah and a small black box wired to a earth strap on the plug casing has broken off (pictured) any idea when it is? - sensor maybe?

    cheers

I have found out that the black box is a 'FALCON 2022 2.2 SENSOR' a capacitor used for noise suppression so Im guessing it wont effect the running of the engine and I dont need to worry about replacing it

Possible that the alternator has seized, thus preventing the crank from turning over.

The scream could be being produced by a stuck drivebelt.

Try removing the drivebelt to start the car, once it's off you can also check to see if you are able to turn the pulley on the alternator using your hand.

Yeah, it was the 2nd thing I tried yesterday, took off the belt and fired up straight away.

That small snapped box as you said is the capacitor. the 3 plug ECU uses the capacitor for the sequential fuel injection. it lets the ECU know what cylinder has just fired.

Ideally you will need to replace that. the EML will probably come on.

Yes that does come on and theres a strange buz going on under the bonnet when I turn on the ignition lights which then stops when it starts so maybe I should get another one.

Any ideas where I can get one, can only find a second hand on Ebay

    Cheers

It's maybe a faulty relay under the ECU causing the buzzing.

worry about the capacitor after its all good and running properly. it's not strictly necessary. I think it's 5 microfarad. Not sure if it can be bought, you might need to bodge one in from maplins or some other electrical store.
