Wireing question

    So i bought a keyless entry set and i have some questions regarding the wiring for a Phase 1 saxo 1.6 from 99. There is already a actuator in the drivers door and all doors open/close including the trunk if i use the key in the drivers door.

    The unit looks like this:


    This is the manual for the unit.



    My questions:
    - orange, white, yellow, orange/black, white/black and yellow/black are the wires that come from the keyless entry unit. Where i hook these up? to the actuator in the drivers door?
    - Can i hook up both brown indicator wires to the indicator wires at the steering column?
    - Where can i connect the green wire from the unit for the windows rising output?

    That's basically all. i once installed a kit like this in a Volvo 440 which had no actuator in the drivers door. i placed a actuator in that door and connected that actuator to the unit. The unit would close the drivers door and the already existing system in the car would close all other doors because the drivers door closed.

    The wiring is basically the same for the central locking. The only questions i have now are

    The guide is nice but no explanation about the auto window roll up.
    What if my car does not have the central locking wire at the passanger side?

    Your auto window roll up won't work. these cars don't have a way to detect when the window is at the top of the frame.

    If your car doors lock then there will be a central locking wire on ALL doors

    These cars are a lot more dumb than a Volvo 440.

    Thanks for your reaction! Where can i find the unlock/lock wire for all doors?
    when i bought the car it had a alarm kit which did close the windows when turning off the car. so i guess it must be possible? Perhaps only the wire for the signal to close window?

    The alarm kit it had must have had current detection. So it would know when the window was closed. The lock wire for all the doors would be at the main relay behind the dashboard. It's a large black box. I don't know which pin it is though.

    For left hand drive it'll be behind the fuse box. it's difficult to reach but that's where it is.

    From memory I don’t think these units need to know when the window is at the top of the frame. The ‘window rising output’ just supplies a +12V output for 30s which raises the windows. Once the windows get to the top they just stop, it would be the same as pressing the ‘window up’ button whilst the windows are up.

    Yes but if the window raises in 15 seconds it'll keep sending current to teh stationary motor for another 15s unless it's got a current limiter and this will wear out the motor

    Holding the window up button does this and pops the fuse.

    Nah. Surely the motors are designed to cope with the current over short periods. All you’re doing is holding the start-up current for a little longer, which shouldn’t be anything more than the motors are designed for. Holding “window up” when the windows are already up shouldn’t blow the fuse...

    It will if you hold it for 15 seconds

    If it doesn't then i'd be expecting smoke from the motor.

    It's designed to cope with it for a very short period of time. When a motor is stopped dead full current flows through the windings and theyre really low resistance.

    Surely that can’t be right can it? If I hold my ‘window up’ button for 15 seconds after the window has closed, the car will either blow a fuse, or the motors in the doors will start to smoke?

    When you stop a motor, there is no back EMF to create a "resistance"

    You're essentially turning it into a low resistance coil. so it draws lots of current and gets hot.

    Yes that is what would happen. it could be 10 seconds, or 100.

    Oh yeah I agree with you on that. I remember doing DC motors at uni. But I think Citroen would've factored that in when choosing the motor for the cars windows.

    It was a bit snowy this morning. I went to put my window down and the windows didn't move. Then the doors started smoking.

    Not surprised the windows have iced up,you are overloading the window motors.Which will lead to the motors burning out(if they have not already)

    replace the burnt out stuff and bin all the addon stuff that's obviously not working.

    Exaggerated because it's icy but back to my original point right there

    Checked the fuses?

    I nearly snapped my handles off today, I guess that's the equivalent.
