Air Injection Valve Removal

    Has anyone done this on a track car? My understanding it that it only really impacts on revs at start up which isn't gonna bother me.
    If it is removed, do you need to put any blanking plates on anywhere?

    You just need to blank the hole in the cylinder head. A small plate with 2 holes in it will be enough.

    It doesn't even affect revs on start up. it's purely to allow excess fuel to burn off before reaching the cat.

    Don't use coca tin for the blank though.

    I thought it was used to try and get the engine to working temp earlier to meet the Euro 3 regulations? That's afaik.

    Be best off with tin foil?

    So, when the engine is cold, unburnt fuel goes into the exhaust. Raw fuel can damage the cat or make it less effective.

    So the air pump lets fresh air into the exhaust so that there's enough oxygen to burn that excess fuel - which heats the cat up and improves cold start emissions.

    I've read you can use a penny coin with heat proof sealant or blank the cylinder head hole. I'm thinking maybe some gasket sealant will do the job...

    an old £1 is perfect size - whatever its dimensions are.

    you'll need to make something up to bolt it down, sealant wont hold it. The exhaust pressure will force it out.

    Could it be as simple as rotating the pre existing plate, stick the £1 in and bolt it down?
    Seems pointless fabricating something to fit when the existing bit could be re-used...

    Yeah I guess so, you could cut the pipe and just use the flange as a clamp

    I guess you could cheat and just cut and crimp the pipe? Not sure how well it'd seal.

    I'm sure you'll find a £1 down the back of a sofa or something lol
