Alternator removal on a 2 door diesel model

  1. #1
    Hi

I have a Citroen Saxo diesel 2001 model with 2 doors that has a problem with the alternator. It must be replaced and I have looked in the Haynes repair manual but my setup is a little different from the book. There does not seem to be enough space to reach the 2 mounting bolts or to pry the alternator out if I get them unscrewed.

    Take the belt off.

You undo the top bolt - you might need to take off the tensioner.

Then undo the bottom bolt, you remove the bolt part way. the diesel engine has a unique bolt you cna't remove it fully.

Tilt the alternator forward around 45 degrees and it will wiggle out.

You might need to unbolt your power steering pump for clearance.

    Thank you MartinObviously

Is it the 2 yellow marked bolts I unbolt to detatch the power steering pump or is it the one that I marked red?

Just the one in red, there's a bolt opposite it on the pulley side as well.

I haven't seen that many, we don't get those pumps on RHD uk models, but I've seen them on LHD.

hopefully that will give you enough space to rotate and lower the alternator

No, you don't need to remove anything.

Unbolt the tensioner and remove the belt.

There's a big bolt thats 19mm, you undo that, but it doesn't come out all the way.

The alternator top bolt is a 13mm, and it's "behind" the tensioner.

Is it top one I can see looking down very tight access?
    Probably allen key?

Mine has electric power steering also do I have to remove the pump?
Maybe that’s why I can’t see the bolts?
    Cheers

Sorry I totally didn't see this!

Glad you got it, it's a little bit more awkward than the petrols to remove. As I'm sure you've found out!
