AX JP4 turbo on NOS NOW 6 SPEED

1. #1
Ive had her since 2001 and bought it as a standard AX GT

now shes had a few £ spent on it and is not quite a standard GT anymore

some my have seen it before but for those that havent

got a few more toys waiting to go on at the mo
T34 turbo running 30psi, tubular manifold, DTA standalone, Wizard of NOS direct port wet system with maximiser controler
custom made intercooler

and im half way through fitting a BE gearbox to take the power
2. #2
seen this on another site pal...and love it to death!!!

its amazing!!
3. #3
Woah, alot of work gone on there, nice job.

It looks ace in that 2nd pic there!
4. #4
mmmmmm delicious like that, whats the figures like?
5. #5
it got 160bhp &180lbs/ft@wheels running 14psi on the T2/T25
managed a 13.9SQM 1st time at the pod then the water inj played up and we kept getting 14.0
havent been to the pod since we sorted the Aquamist, hopeing to get it running with most of the new bits for track at FCS but the bos is a bit of a bugger to get in an AX
ill be fitting antilag to it at the end of the year but it should be mapped at 30 psi on the new T34 turbo, ive played with alot of 1.6 escort turbos with the same spec as im going for and most of them are 300bhp and over 300lbs/ft@wheels ish so close to that would be nice
then ive got a direct port NOS with 150bhp jets to finish it off
6. #6
a few vids aswell

MIKE ill try and pop round and see my mate soon and let him know you want some pics

also trial fitted the new rad/cooler today, just need to make some mounts for it now but fits just where i want it to

36. #36
Sweet mate so u gunna sell kits to fit these boxs in 106/saxo an the normal boxs are shit

40. #40
Amazing car matey, im danr on fsc aswell. When you next have the car at work pop down to the worplesdon road so i can have a ganders
41. #41
its been a while but the car does still exist lol
been compiling patrs for its over haul and the work has started again to get it out on the road for the start of next year
heres a few of the new toys

BE gearbox has been rebuilt with Xsara vts internals and FD

will have to go some to break these lol

the shell is being seam welded at the mo and the engine is being built ready to be dropped in, waiting on the DP manifold with 41mm external waste gate and the GT roller bearing turbo from the states then once ive made the loom for the DTA and changed the suspension its off to essex to be mapped then i can start playing with the nitrous
42. #42
a couple of bits then, lol
43. #43
good stuff, keep us updated with the progress mate

46. #46
Very good AX
47. #47
a few more pics
after fitting the inter cooler found out i got the measuements wrong and it sits too far back so had to bring it forward, but need new headlamps to do this so

got new suspension for it aswell, vts rear beam and wishbones from a sax-p member

then fitted new alloy and poly bushes and new ball joints

finished polishing my S1 inlet aswell

and painted the BE box

then it was stripped back and sent off to be completly seam welded and have VT wishbone brace bars welded in

just waiting for some plastygage to turn up so i can start blueprinting the block
48. #48
thats mint...look forward to the progress....
49. #49
awesome ax you have there mate keep up the good work

omg!
can you tell me whats the origin (car) of these above??

51. #51
Im in love.
52. #52
Citroen Picasso,

but you'll need a BE box form the picasso, modified internals and not sure but probably custom rods to suit [as the picasso is cable shift i believe? possibly hydro clutch also?]

picasso hubs machined down to suit the saxo bearings/struts.

custom fabricated battery tray / gearbox mount to suit the BE gearbox mount.

custom driveshaft (sleeved is cheapest option) as the picasso one(s) are longer than the saxo/ax.

few other odd's & sodds but thats about it tbh.

best bet it to stick with MA shafts unless you plan to run boost and launch hard
53. #53
loving it m8!
54. #54
a very decent car you have there mate

look forward to more progress...will keep an eye out for this...
55. #55
It looks mint what a awsome project. And wow you have put loads of work into it.Good stuff mate.
56. #56
Wow, its looking good mate. Some serious hard graft has gone into that!
57. #57
keep an eye on the alu rear wishbone bushes, the nylon appears to be wearing quite hard on a couple of cars with them fitted.

gutted to hear about the IC problem, i thought it looked a tad pissed lol
58. #58
looking good
59. #59
yes i read about them too ryan but ive payed for them now so ill see how it goes.
the cooler is just placed in there in that pic and not on mounts yet, i fucked up and got it mad to fit behind the standard head lights which would of been fine with the old turbo but as im going for a GT2871 it just wont fit so had to buy morretts then cut the casings on them so i can bring the cooler forward, small price to pay for the bigger turbo lol

also not got any room for the exhaust out of the external wastegate (got to run a gate as i intend to run about 200bhp Nitrous) so im going to have a screamer pipe ending just buy the sump
60. #60
lol ur doing the same as me, sod it ft them an just hope they dont fall appart, ive filed mine slightly rather than trimming the ARB mounts. they are sexy bushes though.

morrettes look great though on the gAyX

200shot of nos is insane. i might be needing to talk to you about some NOS at somepoint myself.
61. #61
I love ur ax, an the best bit is it lives bout 2 roads down from me
62. #62
been a while since i posted but not a great amount has been going on. stripped down the GT axle to use the tube as the VTS one i got off here is fucked, thats away beeing sand blasted so needed new bushes, would of been rude to fit standard

the block has gone off for a reface and chemical clean and the bottom end to be dynamicly balanced with the new clutch and flywheel

also got a bargain from an SSC member who is now superchageing his S1 instead of turboing

then went down today to drop of the old block and BE casing to measure up the mount and was greeted by this, dont think this should break in a hurry

the wishbone plates have been done on both sides and box sectioned like the legs here

cant wait to get it back and paint under here and inside
63. #63
Nice work matey! On another note, where the fuck has mercedes gone lol!
64. #64
lol at the emtpy shell on the jack reminds me of how mine sat for a few months! thankfully it has 4 wheels again (till 2mo when i do another drive shaft change)
65. #65
Good progress.

were in our £5 million site on slyfield now

its coming along now went down today and the gearbox top mount has been made up, its a 306 one that has been made to fit with lots of custom welding

and also bought some of these
67. #67
style whore bonnet pins
68. #68
its gonna be awesome once done mate
69. #69
Nice little progress you've got going on there fella! The pics of your AX (in one piece) look wicked and defo looking forward to seeing this finished
70. #70
the shell is all ready to bring back and paint now (once an SSC customers car is done ill go and get mine)

the welding is all done and the VT* brace bars are now fitted

he has also boxed in the wishbone mount plates to stop them flexing

just needs to come home
71. #71

lol its the only place in the world a 20 year old car can look brand new, they must have about 30 down there
73. #73
well just read the whole thread, this car is awesome mate. big fan

top job
74. #74
finally got space to bring lucy home and glad i have, i never seen her looking this bad before

but got the front stripped out completly ready for prep and paint, sanded and primerd the bay (still more to do) and started removing the under seal from the wheel arches

also started cleaning and painting everything to go back in

also got the block back from being chemical cleaned and had the face machened 6 thou to give a good seal but thats tucked away till i get the internals

and have the custom lower mount for the BE
[/
75. #75
i must be coming down with something, 4 days in a row ive worked on lucy now lol

i went and picked up the new engine last night, this will be the temp new heart till the new one is built, but im also using this one to see how far i can puch the nos so prob wont be sellable when ive finished

also went and got the shaft cut down today

the guy said they were bloody hard lol

dont worry ive not gone GAY and changed to this, he was also making a nice alloy bracket for a pug that puts this in a very interesting position

its not been welded yet as i want to check its the right length 1st

and the engine bay is now painted

just the back part of the cage to take out and ill paint the inside (need to find the paint code as the paint i have done the bay in is way to light for the inside

decided the dash and heater are staying out as i never use it in the rain or winter so its only weight i dont need

and made a start on the loom, only having wires in the car that it needs for MOT every thing else is being binned
work will now stop on her as we have an SScer that needs to be ready for the ring
76. #76
You sorting out Pauls car for the ring mate?

I can't believe this is taking so long Martin. Sure it'll be worth it when it's done!
77. #77
tbh fucking awesome mate, would love to have the money to do something like that

yes mate the axle is fucked so got a new one and poly mounts to do and sort the tracking, and brakes and try and fix the box lol
not long given joes car back, every time we start on our own another one turns up and customers come 1st so the AX will take a back seat

im also having the block played with so it can take more boost and the S1 inlet modified to take an extra 4 inj on top and 4 nitrous inj underneath
79. #79
Martin - keep us updated on the Rallye inlet
Do you mean so you'll have 12 injectors now? 4 in the head, 4 for nitrious on the inlet, and 4 for fuel on the inlet?
Thinking about adding another 4 to mine, on the underneath - so be interesting to see how you get on with yours, and what fuel rail you use/make up for it.
80. #80
yes 12 but the nitrous ones are small, i was going to put 4 nos ones in the top and 4 water ones in the bottom to have direct port water inj but need extra fuel ones so will stick to single jet WI

im using a Jenvy fuel rail for the ones in the head and will prob use another for the extra 4 and see if i can use my aeromotive FPR on both, dont think the standard AX gti fuel lines will be up to the job lol
81. #81
trying to keep busy at the mo so went to the workshop for a few hours today, i had a chat with mark at CR turbos last week about the turbo i want to use and he sent me up some empty casings so i can mock up where everything needs to go
looks like we mighthave a space problem

been looking at the inlet and it looks like there isnt enough room to run a twin injector setup so trying to find some injectors that will cope
82. #82
postively small martin lol!
83. #83
Wheres the best place to get cars remapped local to us Martin? And can i pop down the workshop sometime and have a dribble? Only in oakhanger mate, so if u never need a hand, give us a shout.
84. #84
that is emense them videos are soo sweet
85. #85
are you fucking serious! thats turbo`s bloody huge lol!
86. #86
man this car looks so bad boy yet <3able seen it at pod before i'm sure.
87. #87
man you aint fucking around nice car
88. #88
love this ax looks beaut!
89. #89
cheers for the comments, hopefully get cracking this week cutting the boot floor so i can mount the rad in the back giving more room at the front for a bigger turbo
90. #90
Thats one of if not the best AX i have seen
91. #91
shithot best ax ever
92. #92
nice one looks awsome i dont think you will have too many clearance issues you can always recess the rad a bit more forward might involve slight cutting of the bumper but you will surely be doing that due to the intercooler anyway
93. #93
its easy in a saxo as there is lots of room but sod all in an AX even with the cooler in front of the slam pannel there is no room for a rad so it has to go in the boot
94. #94
i saw this in the flesh the other day and f**k me its tight, i thought mine was really bad.

the shaft is spot on martin. The hubs were ok to although they slipped in the bearing a little easy but should be ok when the driveshaft done up properly.
95. #95
great to see some life coming back into it martin!

you planing on using a side or roof mounted feed for the boot mounted set up? or even a tunnel through the whole car?
96. #96
th rad is going right at the back of the car ryan with a hole in the boot floor that will dust air throught the rad and out the tailgate, this will hopefully pull the back of the car down at high speed and if its not enough then i will dust air from the rear windows in the th box the rad will be in
97. #97
picked up some new shoes for her last night, some of you may know whos car they were from. but im still unsure on the colour
70% of me wants them in white

Raceline RL7's recently refurbed and wearing ni on brand new Toyo R888's

98. #98
went to get the gas for the welder and there computer was down so couldnt book it out :x

got the screen out though as there is a little bit of rust on the coloumn mount and need iot out to weld the cage supports in

got the cage and some of the inside painted

and the wheel arches stripped and re undersealed

also had to bugger about with the struts this week as i need ABS sensors for the traction control but once you fit BE shafts and hubs the MA ABS sensors dont line up so had to mount and make my own

got the AX gti ARB painted and some new drop links
99. #99
awesome!
100. #100
really impressive work on this. will be worth it when it has all come together.
101. #101
thats awesome mate, top job!
102. #102
What a beast, will keep my eye on this
103. #103
What turbo is that in the picture??
104. #104
martin yor nuts that is one hell of a turbo to run on a ax. Like the idea about the rad in the boot you must have no room at all up front since the ax is what 2 " shorter than a saxo.

Always thought mine was a tight fit..

107. #107
fantastic to see it coming back together mate

let us know when its done, id like to pop down and have a cheeky look at it
108. #108
im trying to get the shell back on the road just after xmas and its off to the ring in june(with a 1.4 on lots of nos lol)
109. #109
thought id have a change from the norm with the colour of the struts lol
new bearings top and bottom and new 25mm springs
110. #110
even painted the bearing. you must be keen mate

seen the 1.4 motor on RR should be still worth a giggle once its all built up now.

How good are you lot at fabricating seat rails> as i need some asap and for once have a car thats actually on the road that needs em fitting

there being changed anyway for bigger ones to work with the BE, the 1.4 didnt cost me anything so once its back from the ring/le mans im just going to keep upping the nos till it blows lol
113. #113
HAHAHA you grade a Carrot nut job!

are you plannig on doing a track day or 10 next year. A few of us might do a double header of the ring and spa if the time is right.
114. #114
for the 1st time in 2 years ive started putting bits back on to the car
the front suspension is all back on and working with all new bearing and bushes

and the BE hubs are all sorted and brakes back on

there is a little bit of welding needed in the floor wells but its is 17 years old

and something came up very cheap so i wont have to use the 1.4 as a temp engine untill the turbo one is built, should be a laugh with 100bhp nitrous
I DO HAVE TO SAY IM NOT GAY BUT I HAVE GONE 16V (for now it is only temp)
115. #115
good stuff there mate, at least your moving forward now..

have you took any dimensions and stuff on the BE conversion? as i might need your service at some point in the future.
116. #116
hahaha now you have gone 16v ill await a 'fuck it im boosting the 16v now '

love the RL7 just randomly popping into the pic on the floor
117. #117
loving the Ax mate!
118. #118
had some holiday to use up at work so im off now till the 29th

spent the day with lucy and its starting to look like a car again

refurbed the swingin arms, just waiting for the bearing set to turn up and i can fit them back on the beam

got the beam ready and waiting with the bushes in

also got a rebild kit for the rear calipers so will sort them tomorrow

fitted the GRP N mount set

also fitted the servo and rack back in and started on the oil filter and cooler set up

bumper on to sort oil cooler

and the gearbox is almost ready to bolt on to the engine
119. #119
i am looking forward to you getting the turbo to fit mate
120. #120
the axle is now on the car afetr i rebuilt it with new bearings, just need to set the height

have fully rebuilt the rear calipers with all new seals

also welded the oil cooler mount on and finished all the welding apart from the roll cage

brand new track rod ends and wilwood bias valve turned up this week

121. #121
great work fella keep it up

i bought a suposidly good axle from amember on here and the stub pins were nackered so i stripped down my 100k original GT axle and used the tube from that as it was perfect and just fitted the disc trailing arms

cant buy the pins? mines going, people say once start getting play they are fucked regardless of the pins.

if mines fecked al probably get some made, just finding a press to press them in and out.

164. #164
Sweet car mate keep it uplike it alot
165. #165
not updated this in a while but not alots been done, i do move in to my new unit on weds so ill have more space to play on her
i do however feel violated in having to put this engine in untill i get the 8vT up and running

ive stripped out all the wires from the engine loom not needed and now just need to make a lighting and dash loom from scratch

the raceland is all set to go on and ive been looking for a 3.5'' speedo to match my rev counter, i managed to pick this up free of charge so will be useing this and selling the 5'' autometer one

i have also finished plumbing in the extra pipes needed to make the 16v half decent
166. #166
Slowest progress thread ever!

Urghh, loom. {shudders} I have a loom phobia I think.

Are those extra pipes for the NOS kit?
167. #167
lol i know its slow but i have my reasons

in the last 18 months i lost my little boy and quit my job so didnt have the energy to work on it, now my own business is doing well and i have a bigger workshop i can put her in the corner and start her again

yes the pipes are for the direct port nitrous, im going to keep upping the jets untill i blow up this crap 16v as it was only cheep

then ill swap the nos on to the 8vT

whatever it will take lol

i have the dealer kit and it has 300bhp jets so at some point when i get it going i will try them jets

i was planning on running 200bhp jets on the 8v turbo engine as it has an alloy inlet and will be running methanol with the water inj
173. #173
AX vtr (at least for now its not 8v short)

Glad to see you are well dude!
174. #174
a real engine...why even bother going back to the stone age and losing 8v's now??
175. #175
Will be interesting to know how much it can take. What progressive controller will you be using?

im tempted to turbo this on bud but ive spent loads on the 8v and noone has a big spec turbo 8v

dusher i bought a maximiser when i bought my kit years ago its all sat in the back of a workshop in boxes lol
177. #177
not much of an update on work done but she now has a new home so hopefully ill be able to work on here more

also managed to get a free set of HID's

manifold is on and all mounts are sorted + grp N front billies fitted
178. #178
Firstly, wow I want your toolbox. Good progress, thats one clean gearbox, painted?

lol i only bought it last year(wanted a yellow since i strted in the trade over 10 years ago), ive got the side locker on order as im running out of room

all the gearboxes i do get stripped right down and painted up

the BE i have fitted now

and my old MA (but all customers ones are done the same)
181. #181
immense!
182. #182
little update
got some panels back on to make sure it all fits and so i can cut my bonnet to fit the pins

also started making the new dash, light weight FTW

also picked up some polly windows but these are going as the rears are not rated above 140mph as there bolton not the ones that fit in rubbers, so new ones on order

stripped the interior loom back aswell, the left pile is whats not going back in
183. #183
Looking good! When you hoping to get this up and running then?
184. #184
i know its been a while but should be on the road before the summer, its coming along quite quickly at the mo so will get it sorted with the 16v while i build a new turbo engine
185. #185
looks awsome man !
186. #186
fucking love this car mate some very good work there, that dash is pure unadulterated sex, oesnt look right on the floor but looks perfect in the car, will be keeping a very close eye on this
187. #187
cheers bud, the dash bar in the pic is only a mock up, ive just got some 1.5'' chromoly tube to make it with properly but its a right twat to bend lol, we had 2 of us and an 8 foot extension on the pipe bender to put the right kinks in it.
waiting for the braided sleeve to turn up so i can finish the interior loom ans then get the dash in and wired up.
oh i love wireing

should bepainting the underside next weekend so i can get the fuel tank and exhaust back on
188. #188
"cutting the fat" off my loom when i get it all to that point is going to be my most dreaded part of the build tbh, going for paint under-neath? was going to underseal mine but its rather heavy so im swaying tbh lol, as said though looking very good. cant wait to see the end result, will be a monster
189. #189
epic build mate. This is gonna be one heck of a monster when the 8v is back in!
190. #190
lovely work mate, will be a beast when finished!
191. #191
Smart as Fook!!!

also picked this up from ebay for the 16v for £5

ive also been colecting random turbos to trade in against a GT28 but when i was looking through them yest and one of them was this

ive also got a 4-2-1 fro an 8v engine that im going to use to make a manifold for the TD turbo and fit a takeoff for the wastegate

should run very well on the 8v mate, also do you do the drive shafts for the BE box conversions? seriously thinking this over.
195. #195
well i made mine myself but they havent been tested yet so i wouldnt want to put them on anyone elses car untill ive tried them
196. #196
I HATE THIS CAR
i pushed the car over to my mates workshop so i could use the ramp

got her up with the axle off so i could sort the underside

all the old underseal taken off and some light rust patches treated then new underseal sprayed on

with that lot done i decided to fit the front ARB as i have an AX GTI ARB, new bushes and clamps and new drop links
This is why i hate the bloody car, no matter what you do you cant fit a later type ARB to a MK1 shell, a mk1 ARB has to be used but i cant use one of them with my saxo wishbones and alloy/polly bushes
:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

so the bushes have to come off the saxo arms and fitted on to ax wishbones

also got the brakes all plumbed and sorted

197. #197
thats abit harsh mate, did you not know about the arb before hand? brake lines are nice and neat mind good job there, car is a very clean all rouder tbh good example of an ax as there arent many kicking about these days
198. #198
I recognise those rods lol!
Who paid £150 for your old ones?! I have another set sat here lol. Hmmmm....

The car looks to be coming on well though mate. Love the minimal dash and the brake lines look a very tidy job

the time and effort must be worth it
205. #205
a little update to this

engine is in and running

new suspension all sorted

dash has been remade as i scratched the other one and it needed other bits anyway

for the 1st time since oct 2006 its on its wheels and drives
206. #206
I fucking love this AX, the nicest one I've seen!
207. #207
f*ck me, that's epic. I need one of these in my life. Is it true that these are stupidly light in standard form?
208. #208
less than 800kgs with the interior in
209. #209
:O it'll be like driving a teabag around, got a guestimate of what yours weighs in it's current form?
210. #210
thats a monster!!
211. #211
are you running ax front suspension or has it been changed. reason i ask i have some leda front legs and the are suposedly for a 106/saxo but now they are on the car the car sits very low and they look similar to your legs.
212. #212
mines allsorts lol
i have AX GTI front struts with modified BE hub flanges, GRP N bilsteins, and AX GT wishbones

LEDA struts will be ax/106/saxo ones as there all pritty much the same, the only difference is the ARB mount. AX GT's dont have a drop link, AX GTI's have a straight on as can be seen in the pic and saxo/106's have a 90 degree drop link

PJN id be happy if its under 800kgs as its been seam welded, the cage has been welded in and ive fitted a BE box
2 users thanked this post: ,
213. #213
they are ax gti struts then mine have the straight droplinks. they fit its just the car sits low im going to try a few things to try and pick it up a bit.

thanks for the info the car looks fantastic too.
214. #214
I need to find myself one of these, to the internet!
215. #215
btw love the number plate

A 1.6 AX T

crafty bolt to make it look like 1.6
216. #216
the plate only cost me £250 but i suppose on anything else it wouldnt mean shit

what springs are you running on the LEDA's ?
217. #217
2.5x9x225lb
218. #218
wow what a AX looks mint! great work mate. 1st time ive seen this thread.
219. #219
that is filthy!!
say its scary fast!!
as kev said its the 1st time ive seen this thread too
220. #220
First time i have seen this thread, i love this car, looks awesome.
221. #221
Shes had her 1st polish since 2006.
intercooler has gone back to pro alloy to have the logo re done lower down, ive got to fit the side repeaters back in and wire the nos solenoids and its ready for the track.
MOT will be sorted this week when i get chance to get it in the bay

(tape has still to come off the dash, was just on there to stop it getting scratched while i made it)

Ive been up the road in it and although its quick for a 16v its nothing compared to what it was
i cant see this staying for too long i NEED the turbo back in it
222. #222
you my friend you are a nutter . where are the vids ??! need to see this beast in action gj. and i like to see the best brand of tools being used
223. #223
looks awesome mate, still needs 8 valves less and a nice charger!!!!
224. #224
what a beast!
225. #225
looks an angry fu*ker that does, love it
226. #226
cars

Got the dash in and finished yest and took it on a little drive to get some fuel on the trade plates and all went well

so thought id do the MOT on it today
start with this

look under hear

and end up with one of these

after that me and a mate decided to grab the trade plates again and go for a proper drive to shake it down, once out of the village i booted it and saw plumes of smoke from the back, pulled over and it turns out the rear tyres are rubbing on the arch under acceleration as its still a little too low and the shocks are set too soft so on sunday i raised it 10 mm at the back and adusted the shocks. once on to the bypass i thought id test it properly
its quick when it gets going but i noticed when on full throttle the coolant goes from 80 to 120
so went back to the workshop to check it out

i suppose the upside is atleast now i can skim and port the head the bloody headgasket has gone, cant complain as i did pay £100 for the engine, loom, ecu and gearbox. a bit gutted cos ive only done 10 miles in it and the engine is ythe only bit i havent had apart as it was ment to be temp.
227. #227
the jobs i had in today didnt take as long as i thought they would so

has anyone got any decent cams very cheap they dont want
228. #228
nice easy mot there, lol,
this car will be awsome with the proper engine in,
shame the spare is down lol

fucking beast of a car lol
231. #231
ive never really looked at the 16v head closely before, looking at it today i cant beleive how small the ports are compared to the gasket, so after about 5 hours work they want went from this

to this

i was going to get it skimmed to fuck but rememberd high comp and nos dont mix very well so just waiting for a slight skim and it will be going back on, i would of done sat but the milling machine is broken untill monday
232. #232
Amazing AX!

Ive just aquied one and im looking to do the 16v conversion... Been reading the Wiki on AXOC and slowly picking it up..

To fit a VTS i need a VTS engine, Gearbox and driveshafts? It fits on original mounts? And then i need a VTS engine loom mated too.. Which AX dash loom? Any (as mines a 1.0l) Or will i need a forte dash loom and VTS clocks?

Sorry for the Q's amte but you seem to know your potatoes

Cheers

Ollie
233. #233
it doesnt have to be a vts box, any saxo, 106 or mk2 ax box will fit, the vts loom can be made to fit your dash loom no problem but i cant remember if the 1.0 has a rev counter if not later clocks will fit and saxo clocks can be made to fit.

the lower gearbox mounts are all the same but you will need to fit an ax gearbox top mount and the cambelt mount needs grinding to fit round the 16v covers
234. #234
thats looking good mate

oh dean says good updates and looking forward to it

Blimy! This car is just amazing. Must be so fun to drive! Good job.
237. #237
Love it.
My favourite cars on here have all been home built.
238. #238
A lovely ax there. Those ports are shocking standard. Should open things up a bit now they're done.
Only thing i'm not too fond of is the wheel
239. #239
back on the road

240. #240
i you ever sell this you must pm me mate, i really do actually love this car!!
241. #241
sorry bud it wont ever happen, ive got to put the turbo 8v back in yet and it currently weighs 820 kgs so perspex and carbon pannels to come
242. #242
love this car

good work mate
243. #243
Damn the 8v must be good if its that much better than a VTS lump

Why not turbo and NOS the 16v shurely it would be even better... wait you must have been asked that a million times
244. #244
Looks good what nitrous kit you running?
245. #245
Iv only had a quick flick thru of the thread as im due to go into work but my god it looks amazing mate, credit to you! Deffos reading thru this build tonight

One of the best AX's i've seen everything done to such a great standard

Ive had heavier lumps of corn in maaa craaaap! looking good pal, hows the direct port working for you? Jet sizes are you using now?

im sticking with the 8v 1 cos i want to be different and 2 cos there is no room in an ax as it is and with the size of the intercooler and rad i have there is even less

plus 16v engines were close to £1k when i put the vtr lump in this in 2001

not used the nos yet as the place to fill the bottle near me has stopped selling it so have to go to southampton to get gas
252. #252
shame the real engine wont be in for dt, at least skinnys will be eh?
253. #253
well ive done about 300 miles of very hard driving now and had a little problem lol

putting grp n mounts all round and not useing lock nuts on the custom bottom mount was not the best idea, the lower mount came undone on a spirited drive and it turns out the standard picasso driveshaft isnt quite long enough to allow for engine movement so...

254. #254
how'd you get it home?
255. #255
my neighbour has a recovery business with flat bed at the unit next to mine

it only happened about 3 miles from home but i had no phone on me, the police stopped cos i was n the road and they called my missus who went round and asked him to come and pick me up at 10 pm on a sunday lol
256. #256
this car is fuckin awesome
257. #257
new shaft has been made and fitted in to the car

so its back on the road and ready for DT

ive also made a start on the real engine, a problem with the 8v is unlike the 16v there is no breather on the block
there is now

coming together

and in the search for a faster 1/4, its best to follow colin chapmans words ''add lightness''
so when a mate of mine who used to build cars to compete in the Dakar rallye, told me he had some old buckets in the loft of the workshop i said id take a look, and after offering not a lot

i now have a pair of kevlar Recaro buckets that weigh 7kg's each with mounts

surely you'll need to run a gt30 or more at silly boost to achieve 300 -350?

also whats the internal spec of the engine?
261. #261
not that big, CR turbos are custom building me a turbo to work with my cam and im running quite high comp as i have water inj
i dont want to go too big with the turbo as i can only rev to 7.5k
262. #262
Spec of the cam? Must be an insane spec on the turbo to give that figure! Fair play to you!

What rods - pistons etc you running?
263. #263
Top notch! Truely inspiring!

got home today and had a box waiting
£600 woth of custom made turbo, now i can start making a manifold and wait for the woosner forged rods to arrive

270. #270
i love this been waiting for this! nice, has this been modified due to the lack of space in the bay? looks well tbh!

i await eagerly mre updates, whats the spec of it?

btw, you got those injectors still?
271. #271
the spec is custom between me and marc at CR turbos
its a non wastegated exhaust housing, a modified compressor houseing and 360 thrust
its designed to be on full boost by 3k rpm and will flow enough for 360bhp but can be modified in the future if needed to 420bhp, i am resricted with space between the block and rad so didnt want an off the shelf turbo

the guy who balances my engines got me a set of brand new woosner forged rods for under £500, im having a flange made for the manifold and external wastegate and once i have them i can make the manifo0ld and screamer pipe

yes mate still got them
272. #272
nice, prob be in ouch for the injectors next week, screamer pipe <<< i want, but i cant bring myself to chop up my down pipe, and cba to make another, maybe after a few months of it being on the road

im making my own exhaust (turbo) manifold atm, have you came up with anything yet? got any designs your leaning towards?
what size tube you going to use?

ive got my design pretty made up now. keep it simple is the way forward i feel (simple, not shit lol)

when i was going to do mine, i planned on seeing what the ex ports could be opened up to max, then finding a tube near that size but slightly smaller so the mani could be port matched to the head. simple is good unless your purging it.... the less welds the better

bigger isnt better though when it comes to turbo manifolds... smaller primarys keep gas speed up and spin the turbo up quicker.
ive got some tube but its a big big for my liking, its about the same sze as the dp engineering manifold. id rather have smaller but nevermind.
276. #276
ive found a standard exhaust manifold that has almost identical port sizeing to the vtr and is perfect to mount a turbo to, just need to swap the flange and adapt to fit the wastegate, once i have the engine run in the turbo will be fitted and trailerd up to janspeed to have the downpipe modified to fit the new turbo

i think the dp ones are too big and will induce a very small amount of lag (although i have direct port nos to stop lag)

ahh right, thats pretty much what ive got.

turbo looks good mate, i would like a non wastegated turbo but im going to have to go for a wastegated one and tack the trap door shut

my plan was to go 4 to imediate 2, to 1 so this was the way i planned mine would still keep spool up to a decent rate but not be too restrictive, my plan was hinged around a fairly smallish turbo as it was all fairly low boost when i planned it... plans have since changed though lol

ill be honest, even a bodged up standard manifold will be good enough for most peoples conversions. for other manufacturers you can buy cast "log" manifolds that are totally to cock in terms of "equal length tuning" but still flow 400hp+. this is the nature of turbos. from what ive read the diameter of the pipe is pretty important but we will harldy notice on our "trackday", "road" cars.

what mani if you dont mind me asking mate?, just curious, i think the dp mani's will cause alot of lag on a fairly decent size charger, theyve got too much length about them

yeah, turbo's flow well with pretty shit mani's tbh lol, forced incuction ftw!, simo's is a fine example of whats esentially a pretty basic mani, which is flowing pretty high bhp figures, my mani issues are sorted now as i bought jason's kit.....

......well for now, i think once im all fitted up i may begin fitting up and making a 16v set up for when i get bored
282. #282
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-25-MG-ZR...item20b52322ea

cut the cat off at the collector and weld on the correct flange

the middle 2 pipes are almost perfect and the outer 2 just too wide, but a cut and reweld and there perfect

my old setup had a vtr cast manifold with a t25 flange welded on and that did 200 bhp easy, ive only gone to this type as i need an external because of the nos
283. #283
thats a pretty good find tbh mate! how did you manage to stumble across that? should be easy as fook to get the other two in place!

your old set up ran 200bhp? was that on standalone of mf2? pressure? just trying to gauge what im gonna make on pred at 1bar.

im thinking of building a 16v on the side next year , looking at those gt25/28 import things from america, see how long the last, for £160 if it lasts 6 months itll be a laugh, nice external w/g should go well (this is for the ax plans)

you need to hurry up with this mate! i want to see a super powered 8v coke can rip some awesome 1/4 miles
284. #284
the old setup was on a dastek running 18 psi on a T2/T25 hydrid

ive been looking at manifolds for years trying to find one that was close, i tried that one when i was doing a head gasket on one and its the closest ive seen, i do have a 4-2-1 i was going to bastardise but this is closer

my plan is to have it running for march and get it to the strip, show these 16v how its done
1 user thanked this post:
285. #285
18psi from a t2/25 hybrid? thats quite high.... did the turbo last? im thinking of taking my t25 to turbo solutions in darlington and getting them go hybrid on mine.... depending on how much they'll charge(theres also a turbo technics t25 hybrid the same unit as mine on ebay not far from me, but hes after daft money), what power exactly did yours make mate? im going pred and was gonna try crack 16psi out of my unit the way it is, by my rekoning it should be capable of kissing 200bhp, but im not sure what its gonna make :/ ..... and that annoys me some what lol

as said, i cant wait to see this finished, 8v powa! ill stop spaming your thread now
286. #286
as i planed on running the car at the pod in march i thought id better start with its rebuild

ive got the bottom end back from being balanced, it was blanced with the old clutch and flywheel and im glad i had it redone

this is the balance prior to drilling

and this is after

as you can see its near on perfect now so should have no problems reving to 8.5k, the guy who did the balancing said hes built loads of roller rocker 8v engines for raceing and he revs them to 8.2k so fingers crossed it will hold at them revs :?

honed the block and fitted the new ACL bearings with paste so i can fit the crank back in

also received the new rings from omega so got them fitted now just waiting for the woosner rods that should be here this week

also converted to block to run a jp4 crank case breather

then converted my AP release bearing to work in the BE box

on the down side the S1 inlet doesnt have anywhere to fit the nitrous jets very easily and after checking space it seems the turbo is a little bigger than i 1st thought so the pipes i have for the manifold wont work so back to the drawing board on that
287. #287
some coin gone in2 that m8.looks the muts nuts !!
288. #288
what are you planning to do for the manifold now?
rest looks good mate
289. #289
im not sure mate, i might just convert a standard vtr one for now untill i can spare the £1k for a custom primary designs one
the only problem i have converting a standard one is my turbo in non gated so i have to run an external wastegate
290. #290

can you tig weld or know anyone who can?
if so have a look at my thread and the manifold i have made, maybe come up with something lik that?
291. #291
thats an awsome looking mani
i can tig weld and ive had an 8v flange and t3 flange laser cut out of black steel, i just cant find any pipes/bends to use for it anywhere
my other problem is its in an ax and i dont have the room you have in a 106, my turbo has to sit alot closer to the block
292. #292
mate just read this start to finish... lonnngg process lol
Cant wait see it finished!!
once finished i reckon you should wings on it... with how light it is and top end... fly to the moon maybe? LOL

good progress matey!!
293. #293
annoyed by my original mani idea not fitting, i spent half hour with an angle grinder, a 318 and K series manifold ive come up with this

still needs finishing but not a bad effort fo 30 mins
294. #294

starting to look a bit cramped

295. #295
well after taking the engine apart in 2007 for rebuild its finally back together lol

296. #296
love it, engine looks well! mani should be decent tbh looks very similar to mine! any welding up done yet?

i planned on external wastegate from underneath, but cutting right back, so not gonna bother now

297. #297
well after getting up early to watch the GP i went to the workshop to do a few little bits
ie fit the rear main and clutch

then while i was in the mood for working

and started to mock out the manifold (dam its going to be tight  )

298. #298
Chop chop martin

Glad to see engine back together
299. #299
looking good mr £50 and whos that sheddy saxo in the back there

christ didn't realise the ugandan presidents tomcat was there to
300. #300
its like a mini axoc meet at the mo lol
301. #301
loads of heaps in there then
302. #302
mani is gonna be tight! engine back in is good news though

so you think you can take on my wiring nightmare mate? i know its not rocket science, but with no pin outs etc, id just rahter someone who knows the looms done it, need it done wuick and sandy is too busy.... i had a feeling he would be lol
303. #303
yes bud, ive just rewired an emerald an single plug loom in to a 3 plug saxo that has been very messed with (just finished compltly re wireing a mk1 golf g60 aswell)
304. #304
Looking great! Any way of shortening the nitrous lines from the distribution block to the nozzles?
1 user thanked this post:
305. #305
ive tried everything i can to get them shorter but thats the best i can get them, it shouldnt be too bad as i have a maximiser so can compensate for the pipe length
306. #306
such amaising work gone into this m8.
i love it looks the nuts, and such a great build.
nitrous is tight, will be helping fit direct port to my m8s vts on friday, but standard 16v inlet has more space by the looks.
will be monstrous when back on the road.
307. #307
i fitted direct port on the vts lump i had last year (but never filled the bottle) there is some pics further back in this blog
i still have the lower half of the inlet i drilled for the injectors if its any help, that way he will have a standard inlet to go back on if he wants at a later date
308. #308
pm me a price for it m8, would be perfect
309. #309
looks like it wont be ready for FCS as i just have too much work on and no time to do mine (still quite a bt to do)

ive sold my old seats so have to make new subframes for the recaros, but now the turbo is in i want to get it to janspeed to have the down pipe modified to fit the new turbo

manifold made

i know the runers are not the same length but being in an AX i dont have the space to do it any other way

another job to do is make a loom for the new ECU

this also has to wire in to the water injection and the nitrous controler
310. #310
martin im sure theres some seats and subframes to steal in a heap down there if you need to get to the show!
311. #311
trax for defo!

come on mate you know how much you miss it

was wondering what you were gonna pull out the bag for the mani, should do spot on

stop helping others and do your own car!!! much appreciate the help youve given me btw
312. #312
im worried about taking it to a show this year as its booked on the train to go to france in sept and dont want to break it before then lol
1 user thanked this post:
313. #313
best get a shift on then mate, sept is not that far away
314. #314
i know, im booking it in to have the downpipe done at janspeed for when i get back from holiday in june then have to have it running as there is a 2 month wait to get in to track and road
i know the drive back from there with it mapped but on the trailer will be a boring one
315. #315
lol, be worth it though! should be a serious AX

my NEW trust bearing is noisey as fuck and is squeling evry now and again, even louder now ive adjusted the clutch back a bit as bite was quite high

in two mind on whether to buy a new valeo and whip the box off on sat or not, could really do without it failing and the noise is doing my head in
316. #316
what clutch are you useing
my AP one was £70 and i had to make it fit the BE by buying a new pug one and taking it apart lol
317. #317
helix with 4 paddle usprung plate-its pretty brutal tbh

but the bearing was squeeling abdly on first start, before it was even engaged, thought it was engine related, squeals alot less now, just abit noisey, but since i eased the cabe of a bit earlier tonight its noisey as fuck again

EDIT- did want an uprated bearing but couldnt find one, everyone i asked said it would be fine on a standard, so got CG motor sport to suply me a standard when thy relined the paddle plate
318. #318
still struggling to find anywhere to put everything lol

waiting on the last hose to be made by samco then off to janspeed to have the new downpipe made on the 21st
319. #319
TIGHT!!! In every sense of the word
320. #320
all ready for her trip to janspeed tomorrow morning

321. #321
oh my it looks like a complete car again
322. #322
this is going to be a missile.. especially with a turbo that big on it lol
323. #323
Great work on the Ax going to rapid once mapped love the colour of the ax
324. #324
well not good news, got to janspeed at 8am and yogi there fabricator asked for the 4 bolt flange for the downpipe (the one the guy in the office said i woundnt need as they would have one ) so an hours drive to CR turbos and £40 later (one i could of had made for free my my fabricator) and an hours drive back to janspeed, yogi then said the turbo is too close to the alternator for a 2.5'' pipe and the manifold pipes are too thin and will break over time, so im now remaking the whole manifold from 3mm tube and cutting the slave cyl lugs off the gearbox so i can move the turbo over

im pissed off cos the car still needs mapping (and i have to finish the loom) and its booked on the train to go to paris in sept
(and i have another turbo ax to build as its booked on the same train llo)
325. #325
nice car mate! so jealous!
326. #326
this car is immense, there must be so little space its mad!

im doing a 16v turbo build in a ph1 106, how does the ax bay compare? it looks smaller????????????
tommy
327. #327
What a pain in the arse then. Think you will get it done on time?
328. #328
cheers chaps

yes the ax bay is smaller than an S1, im really struggling for room with the t34

i hope so mate i really want this back on the road
329. #329
sorry did I just read T34??! shame about all the bad luck mate but I am not racing you and loosing again in october will stay well out of your way

my favourite AX ever, must see this at some point, bad news on the issues mate, but least its all gonna be done right from the off and your not gonna run into issues along the way, be a right bitch if youd had the exhasut made up and the mani disintegrated on full boost, id imagine that would result in a nasty fire tbh
332. #332
sorry to hear all the problems mate

as the mk1 manifold isnt any good, i started on the mk2

start with a flat plate of steel

program what you want it to look like

then sit back and watch

also managed to get a genuine cossie 3 bar map sensor

the manifold is being Tigd thi week and the car is back off to janspeed on the 4th of aug, then off for mapping on the 5th

thi is the update weve been waiting on

didnt know you had CNC mate, rekon you can bang me a few flanges off? obvs ll pay you for the service?
336. #336
should be able to, i have an enginering shop opposite so can really get anything made up (its been bloody handy lol)
337. #337
Mapping om the 5th?

Let's hope it's a good couple of days on the rollers then
338. #338
yes ive got another ax turbo ive built being mapped on the 4th but that saxo being done on the 2nd is now the week after

Ah righto.

All going down pompey?
340. #340
no the saxo is goin to pompey but both the ax's are being mapped in andover, but mine has to go to janspeed in sailsbury 1st to have the downpipe made
341. #341
Fair few miles being racked up then.

We must sort the shoot once it's back working
342. #342
fingers crossed it makes it back from france then lol
343. #343
Better ask carworx if they can help finish it then
344. #344
manifold is done

turbo is all fitted up and back on

added oil return to the sump and made up an oil drain for the turbo

then once the sump was on ive got some joe gibbs breaking in mineral oil from the states

then the final piece, the screamer pipe

i know it looks untidy but im short on space
345. #345
very nice. mani looks much better this time round mate, i think you should get a black powder coated rocker, too shiny in there now
346. #346
I'm sorry Martin that looks nearly finished ps if your at dt passenger ride?
347. #347
apart from the downpipe it is , i did try starting it today but the crank sensor needs setting in the ecu and for some reason my laptop wont talk to my DTA

i like the shiny andrew, im looking for an alloy brake fluid cover (and it took days to get the inlet that shiny lol) the screamer and manifold will be coated white
348. #348
Coming along nicely and how you squeeze it into that tiny enginebay is beyond me understand why you went 8v now
I spy water injection pump or is it being used for the NOS injection?
Thx.
349. #349
water/methanol injection AND direct port nitrous with a progressive controller

although the nos is on its own second map and the water/meth wont be used on that map

i want to see how the 8v setup works for now, but if i do get bored i have a JP4 head and will mke an inlet for it
350. #350
Intresting mix, didnt think you could mix o2/meth & nos...

All the reading up I have done up on o2/meth injection makes me think its such a good idea and setup properly can do so much good to a turbo charged engine, even if its a low pressure none progressive setup, I am tempted by one of the progressive o2/meth kits but would love to hear your opinion on these as there is just a wash of them out there...

Thanks.
351. #351
you can run water and nos but nos has the same cooling properties as water but acts as a better fuel so the water just takes up the space the nos could be in

ive only used pure water in the past not mixed with meth, ive read some great results of scoobys adding 10% meth in to the fuel tank

im hopeing i can get some good results on mine even though it isnt a progressive one, mines just a Aquamist 1s i bought about 6 years ago
352. #352
yeah i did wanna polish mine but thought...erm no lol too much hassle, looking good anyway, isthe mani/screamer S/S? or mild?

thats cool was thinking the same for my next project

as i dont have a TIG welder and im not buying another mani... any ideas how much ceram is gonna cost? i assume your getting ceramic?

sure rossdagley had a link on his turbo blog for a company..

edited my above post btw^^ as it sounded like i was being a cunt although that not what i was going for
356. #356
there are 2 compnys, cam coat and zircotec
cam coat are cheaper but the zircotec one is a better quality

not sure on cost yet but i think it will be about £200 ish

ive had to cancel the mapping for this week as i cant get my laptop to talk to my DTA (it talks to emerald no problem) so i cant do the basic settings, i think its a windows 7 problem with DTASwin
357. #357
finally got chance to go and get my car from janspeed
while there i saw a nice one having a system made

now the good bit

and wrapped the screamer

(i know there is a plastic cable tie on there but im waiting for the metal ones to turn up, and the rust showing on the manifold and turbo was due to the torential rain when i trailerd it down)

these also turned up last week
358. #358
exhaust looks mint mate, wish there was places like this near me, only decent place for exhaustsup here is AAS, and although their quality is second to none...there prices are feckng unreal, and theyre not exactly a well known outfit such as janspeed..

so we any further forward RE laptop?
359. #359
mate trust me janspeed know how to charge

no matter what i do my asus wont talk to it, ive got an IBM thinkpad with a serial port i use for my mercedes software but now i cant find the DTA software disc and the thinkpad doesnt have internet on it
360. #360
hahaha, ohh i can imagine janspeed cutom work isnt cheap...tbh you pay for the time of the comany name with places like that these days...but as i said, id still like the name on my system AAS will be doing my next one...centre exit i think, keep things nice and smooth

not a got a mobile dongle for the internet?
361. #361
its years old so i dont think it has any internet software on it lol

the exhaust is good but it did cost the same as the ECU

doesnt matter mate, the dongle will install the drivers for wireless through the dongle, see f you can borrow a mates a download it

ouch! money well spent though martin, not much will rival it on quality and flow
363. #363
got it sorted i had to dig out and internet cable lol ive only ever used wireless since ive lived in my house haha

your right on the quality its awsome although i have a center box that i might be selling and getting a straight through made up, im not bothered about noise regs as im sure the screamer will fail them anyway
364. #364

finally all together and ready to be mapped

now its gutting that i havent got a day to get it mapped free for another 2 weeks

373. #373
we need figures and vidoes! looking good mate, you mod'd the bmpe for screamer yet?
374. #374
wont have a vid of the mapping as i left it there to be done on monday, ill be picking it up on wednesday but only running wastgate pressure to run it in for 1k then go back for full power mapping with the water inj
375. #375
whats wastegate? 10? 14?

best option mate, will still be like a ground missile anyway, youve not driven it for that long it will feel amazing
376. #376
this...is...SEX!! love this thread....

andrew the wastgate is 8psi i think

sweet, what you planning on putting it up to? or are you just going to graduate it everytime you get bored....id probs graduate it 4-5 psi at a time, keeps things interesting

although that depends how much your mapper charges for maps tweaks...

cant wait to see theis putting some figures up!
379. #379
once its run in the full power map will be at the maximum boost engine can handle, i can turn it down on the dash to get used to it but even when im used to the full power i have the nitrous to play with and have a box here with all the jets from 25bhp to 250bhp (but my suply line will only handle 150bhp so might have to change that )

you only live once ha ha, ill be playing about with the gearing aswell to see if i can get 180mph

come along to the RR day in the south section and youll see it then
383. #383
ok mate will give you a ring tomrow about a mot as jason failed it how much do you do them for thanks tom
384. #384
back on the rollers today for the running in map, 1st problem was it melted the top of the dipstick then got an interference problem on the crank sensor i think as i loose rpm signal at 5k (ive heard of people having problems with the later unsheilded sensor with aftermarket ECU's)
so it was mapped at wastgate pressure up to 5k and ill sort the sensor and run it in then back for more mapping at higher boost and up to 7.5k rpm

the good side is at 10psi and only reving to 5k it made 150bhp@wheels and was coming on full boost by 3k

385. #385
loving this mate, full bost by 3k? thats fucking good on that turbo! youll not need a high ev limit then

probs due to how close the turbo is the the exhaust ports..getting full velocity of exhaust gas to the turbo
386. #386
yes the turbo was speced specially for my engine/cam combination and im limited on rev limit as i have a roller rocker engine
it also has the option to make it flow over 400bhp but will come on boost 500rpm later but looking at how it did today ill prob stay with it as it is (plus ive always got the nos to go yet)

i just cant wait to drive it now
1 user thanked this post:
387. #387
tbh martin.. 25psi on your engine in an AX should be quick enough without the NOS...theres only soo much you cna use!! lol

cant wait to see some graphs and videos

and of course what it puts a 1/4 mile in
388. #388
unfortunatly for a graph ill have to get a power run at another RR as the printer part is fucked on my mappers RR

the 1/4 mile is what im interested in though
389. #389
well last weekend was the AXOC euro trip to the citroen factory in paris
and aswell as planning on taking mine i had to finish another ax gti turbo aswell, well they both made it there and back without any problems (well a snapped spedo cable on the gti and a mini hitler not wanting to let me on the train with the nos bottle)

after a bit of a detour its safe to say its now run in so will be off for final mapping next week, the boost is only set to 8 psi and not 10 as i 1st thought and it doesnt come on song till 4k (which only reving to 5.5k was crap ) but should be good once mapped

390. #390

391. #391
sweet, that screamer not melting your bumper?
392. #392
nope its got a bling halfrauds tailpipe trim on that doesnt get hot
but as i said i could only rev to 5.5k so was maxed at 100mph and was loosing to everything
393. #393
yeah....may find that once the boost and rev limit is up......and you get some proper heat through that screamer, the halfords bling melts lol

looks mint as per though martin, i really do stand by my quote, if you EVER even think about selling this, phone ME first, if it requires an bank loan them so be it

its mapped for 8psi (lowest setting on the wastegate) just need the time to get back on the rollers and map to 25psi
it made 200bhp @ 8 though

always loved the sound of boddies, did some work on magojase 106 and it sounds awsome also my best mate has a boddied 306 rallye and love the sound but id rather have the sheer power of a turbo

jase is doing a day at brands in march, i wont make it but yours will be done
417. #417
Shame yours won't be done, still know you will have some time to hit the track with me when the new addition to the family is a few months old

I need to sort the cage mounts etc.. For mine before I go anywhere near paddock at speed.
418. #418
i need more buttons on my steering wheel for a few functions on my ECU and seeing some wheels in the GT cars i had a few ideas

i saw one of these

but at £68+vat and me being a tight arse i did something else

take one sheet of 2mm alloy sheet

a plasma cutter and a file and

not perfect but was alot cheaper than the OMP one

got 2 more red buttons coming to go on the top parts, this also gets around the problem of not being able to reach the starter button with the harness on, also as the wheel is removable it means without this wheel you cant start the car
419. #419
this should make a difference to the rubbing at the back

but this will prob make more of a difference

420. #420
what power did it make
421. #421
248bhp and 236lbs/ft @20psi, it made 220bhp @15psi so its being strangled over 1 bar
i think the exhaust manifold is holding it back as it hits 5k and the power just drops off . ill make a new manifold with bigger primarys and longer runners next winter so i can at least use the car this year

due to my gearing it under reads the power figures on the rollers, i have a 0.8 4th gear so the figure is about 20% off the real power so with a 1.1 4th its closer to 300bhp@fly but has alot more to come as the turbo should make power up to the redline, i didnt want to run the water/meth untill the other issue is sorted but it should still be fun to drive this year

it took 3 of us sat on the slam panel to stop it lifting out of the rollers lol

Will look forward to seeing it at pod
425. #425
Are you running standard size valves or are they bigger?

Will still be mentally quick how light it is at that power lol
426. #426
standard size valves mate but cut back with a heavily ported head

i think it weighs in at about 800kgs at the mo

yeah around 5.5k can see it drop off but still martin you'll be beasting pretty much anything that gets in your way
430. #430
Not sure what to make of the graph Martin, is that as much as you revved it or did you rev it out? What's the rev limit set at?
431. #431
Soo it goes from 70bhp to 230+bhp in 1600rpm, not suprised its trying to take off haha, still mental power, nice hot mani to
432. #432
rev limit is 7.5 Danny and yes if revd right to the limit but the power just went down
433. #433
what was the injector duty?
434. #434
As the above, looks like fuelling, as that is a serious drop off. On that graph did you try to run it up to the redline, and that was the result?
435. #435
yes adam it was run up to the limiter but as soon as it hit 5.5k ish you could see the power drop off

not sure what they were running at

jamie did say before he started he didnt think 390cc's were big enough, and now you say pump i have a sytec one thats only rated to 300bhp

im running 440s at about 60-70% iirc? at 218bhp (ill have to check)

id say your injectors would have been maxxed out at that power???

EDIT- the 337 ones i got off you were hitting 80% at 163bhp when i was using 10psi..but it was overfueling alot aswel
437. #437
good progress tweeqd,im pritty sure you need bigger injectors.

when are you hoping to start some track days?
438. #438
not sure if i will track this, its a bit laggy i hate to say it but i might look at a .48 exhaust housing

ill be at the pod in march though
439. #439
What's the sudden dip at 2500rpm? Very odd!
440. #440
i was hopeing you would se this sandy (although i guess you need more info than just the graph)

not sure on the dip, the powere band of the cam is 3-7k, i didnt know what to make of the dip or the suddon power loss

it will be on the rollers next weekend at surrey RR so ill see if the dip at 2.5 is there on their rollers

i took it out for a drive yesterday and i need 4 pots lol, my master cyl has gone aswell so was a bit scary but once on boost its just mental, it still had the shit tyres on i had on for mapping so had no grip but christ it fast.

its a bit too laggy for the track and road but should be ok on the strip, i might look at swapping to a .48 housing, i know it will loose a bit of power but that wont affect it too much lol

its only running 2 inch pipes as it is fitting smaller inlet would reduce the lag ill get some vids on sat Matt
445. #445
Yeah you don't really wanna go smaller then that

Sounds like its time for a custom inlet mate

Could remove the rear of the rallye one and have the plenum made shallower... But if going that extent I suppose a custom would be better
446. #446
ive got a vag one and a Rover one here i could make fit as both have smaller chambers
447. #447
The vag ones have long runners don't they?

Still ne a lot better then the rallye one I suppose
448. #448
not as long as the rallye runners but it would need cutting down to fit anyway

im sure you will iron out the problems dude

all trial and error in my oppinion.

sound about pod, would be good if a few of us could meet up
451. #451
ill be there from 8 am sat till late Sunday look for an iveco van with side awning and trailer. ill take the laptop to the rollers no sat and see what the injectors are doing Thats if my master cyl fits
452. #452
got to love this car, managed to fit the 23.8mm master cyl

but then found it had filled the servo with brake fluid and fucked it, the pain being on an ax with an S1 inlet the inlet has to come offf to change the servo

finding one is a pain so ive pinched one from a customers ax turbo for now, double pain in the ass as his has an S1 inlet aswell

wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt ment to be going to the RR day on sat
453. #453
That's the fun of french
454. #454
shit quality, ill get some better ones in the daylight tomorrow

this is turned down to 1 bar to try and stop the wheel spin

455. #455
looking good. What tyres and torsion bars are you using? should be able to stop a lot of wheel spin with some upgrades
456. #456
195/50 15 888, 24mm rear arb, grp n billies all round.
im going to downsize the exhaust housing to spread the power band a bit more

im having some solid alloy rear shocks made for the pod to keep the back high and stop it squating
457. #457
had an RR day with sax p on sat at surrey RR (will be in a future Pfc)
car made 262@18psi, i had the laptop on so i could run the data logger and looking at it after the run the injectors are 94% @6k so need bigger ones so i can turn up the boost, ive also got a feeling the pump isnt up to the job so ive found an aeromotve 340lph pump that will fit straight in (i have a sytec one for sale tim )

was out driving the car most of the day sat and still cant get over how quick it is and how good the brakes now are, almost crashed my van on the way home as i was expecting the brakes to be as good as the ax lol

its too laggy for road/track really so will leave aLL the upgrades till winter so i can put a new turbo houseing on and have it all remapped with anothe 10psi

458. #458
Mental AX!

You know it's proper spec when the interior has it's own laptop stand, love it.
459. #459
bhp and afr

.

bhp and lbs/ft

460. #460
looking good tweeqd, good to see that drop at 2k-3k has gone

is that 260 @ the wheels with 18psi as thats around what mine makes at 18psi on a 2860rs with a stock head.

from what i can see it does seem a tad laggy, but im sure some turbo modifications will sort that out video was awsom though
461. #461
Love This AX tweeqd, like the colour and love the fact it's turbo'd keep up the good work
462. #462
Looked & sounded really good at the RR matey! You taking it to pod at the end of the month?
463. #463
Just been through the thread mate, thought I'd best have a gander after seeing it on Saturday, can't believe you had a nos'd vts engine as a temp engine lol

lol i didnt get round to filling up the bottle, it wasnt fast enough with the 16 so i put the turbo lump back in earlyer than planed

the 16v is now in Fulchs white saxo
470. #470
well after the 1st shake down at santa pod it was disapointing

i knew it was laggy (new exhaust housing and manifold waiting to go on) but thought i would take it and see what it could do in this state (only running 1 bar, NO nos and a standard open diff)
ive streched the gears out as long as i could to drop the revs to the start of it boosting but didnt account for wheel spin so from 1st to 3rd it drops off the boost due to the road speed not matching the engine speed and then takes time to build up, so the 1st 1/8th is spent wheel spinning and dropping off boost and taking 10 secs, the last 1/8th gets traction and is covered in 4 secs crossing at 110mph
with the new turbo it will still be in boost when i change gear and with the new manifold i can run another 12 psi and the nitrous so can knock a few secs off my best time so far

471. #471
well the car hasnt really moved since the fast show (i did use it for a few days to go to and from work) but lots of work on and moving/decorating the new workshop so had no time to sort a new manifold

after i drive on the GrpN billies i didnt like them, there isnt enough weight in the back of my AX to make them work so sold them and replaced them with a set of B8's

also received this from the states today aswell

472. #472
Is that an in-tank fuel pump? Thought you had an external setup?
473. #473
yes intank
its not really a track car so dont see the need for an external setup

481. #481
well i was invited by PFC to put the car in the paddock suite at donnington

with the geabox having crap ratios in i decided not to do any track time but after spending all day there and having towed the car on a trailer i thought sod it and bought 30 mins at the end of the day (having been purswaded by Gareth_r)

well having not planed to run it it only had 1/4 tank of fuel, and having 1/4 tank and a standard fuel setup is a very bad idea
i have to appologise to all the people on the last session if i held you up out the back of the track as every bend i went round the standard swirl pot ran dry and i lost all power, it went like fuck on the straight but had no fuel round the corners

484. #484
yes mate
485bhp still on the 1.4 push rod engine lol
it has been converted to injection and coil pack plus a little squirt of nos to get the GT30 spinning lol

the mk1 clio with the turbo R32 lump in the boot was a little more mental

485. #485
some epic cars there!!

love that 5, mad how you get so much from a little 8v engine!!

the turbo on that clio is fucking huge!!

decided to have a play about with the gearbox mainly cos i could

now running a BE4R/6 speed conversion

also the running in map i had done last year seems to have fucked a piston so i thought id change the engine spec a little

JP4 block and head
PEC forged rods
Woosner pistons
J4 springs and lifters
J4 exhaust cam
J4 708 inlet cam
Tweeqd/Rover inlet manifold
Turbo smart FPR
630cc injectors
Tweeqd custom fuel rail

just need to finish making the manifold

also done away with the switch for the nos and bought a TPS box

didnt want to bud but had a jp4 and a j4 engine here so it hasnt cost me anything to build

all the 8v stuff has been bought to go in another ax with a slightly smaller tyrbo and a DP manifold so will make a good engine

Its been 'running' for over a year.

However its not finished and not on the road as ive been spending alot of money on a complete kit overhaul for my work.

ECU was fine in the end though, but there were a few niggles martin had to work through (things like stuck injectors etc..)

the box is now fully built with the ATB and now a working reverse stop lever

cams dialled in

and engine now fully built (got to put the sump on) and ready to go in, just waiting for by new release bearing adaptor to be made and the box and engine can go in.
i modified a standard bearing to accept an AP release bearing and as its plastic its got hot and melted so now having one made out of stainless

499. #499
ive caved in and gone the easy way of an exhaust manifold
took a little work to get it in

also now have the 6 speed box in with a custom made bearing carrier for an AP bearing

503. #503
Defo need a think about that

Paint on bonnet won't like that lol

Any room o run a heat shield on the user side of the bonnet? So get it coated and when bonnet is shut it deflects heat down over to spot it melting the paint?

Can imagine its still gonna get pretty hot

the only bugger with the new inlet is i cant now find anywhere to fit the nos jets
510. #510
nice work mate...who made your exhaust mani?? I hav a modified Rover Turbo inlet for my zetec turbo Fiesta RS Turbo as well. Seem to be the best cheap inlet for alot of tuners!

chers joe

wheels off for coating

ran it up yeast to make sure it was all good for mapping and noticed the alt had died, ordered a new one that turned up at 5:30, fitted it and that was dead so loaded up anyway and went off for mapping

got to jamsort today for the running in map, got her up and running and the bloody thermostat housing had cracked so bodged it back on and carried on, mapped up to 4.2k. turbo starts spooling at 3.8k and is boosting by 4k

got her home tonight and fitted the new alt, also a new housing and an 82 degree stat
then drove to portsmouth to add some miles, feels awsome up to 4k and the 6 speed is wicked

My exhaust cam cover started to melt closest to the manifold - I've since got zircotec so don't know if it would happen now - but a skim of J4 covers and curil T and my J4's have never leaked at all.

Loving the 6 speed box more and more Martin! Deffo an option I'll be taking at some point! Well done.

90mph @ 4k makes that a easy REAL 150mph+ ax no doubt! whats it redlining at?
544. #544
On standard j4 followers so set the limit to 7800
the bottom end is forged and balanced so will easy see 9k, if the turbo is still pulling at 7.8 I might go for solid lifters and see what it makes

What would it cost to have a 6 speed box built? Could it work with a satchshift?
549. #549
Nomnomnom, love this car, what front splitter is that?
550. #550
The splitter is 2 from a mk2 golf small bumper gti
( the golf isnt as wide so needs to be made of 2 spliters)

If you supply a be4 and a be3/6 i can convert for £100
There is only 2 differences between the standard be conversion and this, 1 being the hole needed in the chassis leg and the other that would be the only prob with a sacthchift ( and the reason i havent fitted one) is the lift up reverse setup on the gearlever
2 users thanked this post: ,
551. #551
Do you think its possible to adapt the satshift to work with this Martin? I was thinking about BE box mine next winter so might as well do it properly while im at it hey!
552. #552
of course, colin does a BE satchshift, there's only one part different in the kit.
553. #553
Sorry I didn't make that clear, I know Colin makes a BE kit, but can it be adapted to the 6 speed and the reverse mech?
554. #554
there's no difference 5 to speed, reverse stop is something you'll have to figure yourself, wont be hard though.

I have seen a diesel stop solenoid utilised as it happens, so you could have a button you press before selecting reverse, or stick to cable with a bike brake lever.
555. #555
aswelsh says apart fromthe box sticking through the chassis its exactly the same as the normal BE conversion

the cable doesnt move that far (max half inch) so just needs something making up to fit the gearlever (the gti6system wont work with the nylon sach gearknob ) i used a gti6 lever as it was easy but prob wouldnt be that hard to adapt something, most vauxhalls and mk1 clios use the lift up reverse

the downside ofthe 6 speed be is there isnt the choice of gears there is with the 5 speed and unless you have mega money you cant do bugger all with the FD

running now finished i took it back to jamsprt for mapping

202bhp and 200lbs/ft at 7psi

turned it up to 18psi and fuel dropped off at 5.5k, turns out the boost was pushing the injectors out, modified the fuel rail mounts to hold it in place but ran out of time so will go back at a later date for mapping at 30psi and water/meth

at 18psi it did make 310bhp (270bhp@wheels) with a bit more fine tuning of the ign to come

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...psc4cf0886.jpg
563. #563
This is the problem I'm having Martin, got the wrong seals for my injectors and its blowing the fuel back out on boost

270atws is still not to sniffed at
564. #564
oh my my this is rather naughty
565. #565
seals are ok but its a custom rail and my mounts were shit lol,

just couldnt hold it, it now has thick alloy mounts welded on so defo wont move but i broke a bolt off while putting the inlet back on, it will take me 2 mins to get out with my own tools so rather than block up the rollers ive brought her home and will go back either before or after the fast show

got a RR day at JKM in pompy this sat so will see what it makes at 23psi (ecu scaling will make it safe at that) with the fuel issue sorted then back to jamsport for the final mapping

hopefully get it out on the road tomorrow

need video of you going holy fuck well worth the £50 or something along those lines
569. #569
will charge the camera and get a vid on sat playing with the golfmk5gti forum guys
570. #570
Very Impressed Martin. Great power so far no matter which way you look at it! With that water meth it's going to make a nice difference I know it! It's going to be sooo different to drive than the 8v setup lol..
571. #571
cheers mate cant wait to drive it
170@wheels on 8psi
270@wheels on 18psi
so 28 psi with water/meth should be fun, then ive got the nos to add aswell
572. #572

think i need a speedo that goes higher
573. #573
Oh my..

That is crazy!
574. #574
Sorry, did that just go from 80 to 120 mph in like 2 seconds?
575. #575
Went to a rolling road day at jkm with the mk5 golf forum, my mate took his 320bhp edition 30 golf and another mate took a 440bhp rs4 and neither of them could keep anywhere near the ax on the road

Also gad a play with an r6 on the way home and he stopped and asked what was in it as not many cars can pull clean past a bike at a ton +
576. #576
One word - SICK! 28 psi is massive
577. #577
That speedo vid above is 18 psi
578. #578
Martin, what did it make today at the RR day?

Have you got it on YouTube as my phone can't open photobucket video..
579. #579
299 on jims rollers at 18psi but the power goes flat at 5k cos it needs more ign, more timing and boost should see a healthy rise in power
580. #580
Well went back to Jamsport today for final mapping, added lots mor ign and upped the boost
due to only haveing a 7psi spring in the wastgate and a crappy bleed valve/boost controler we couldnt get more than 22 psi
so power run at 22 psi saw

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=...27280037951988

i was run in 6th and had to put 5 straps on to try and stop it wheel spinning

needless to say im quite happy with that, once i sort the boost issue it will see 30 psi
we did run the water/meth bt jamie was reluctant to add ign as there is no fail safe on my system so if it stops i wont know and it will melt pistons so ill be adding a few fail safe systems to get over that

no to run it at the pod and then next week start playing with the nos

the rollers made a mess of my toyos

so fitted a brand new pair of 888's to the front

581. #581
Looking really good for when it gets full boost then bud, really good figure already, should crack the 400bhp mark easy enough....any plans to up the limiter to widen powerband?? Will be still making power at limiter when it gets 2 bar.
582. #582
just been discussing that with someone else, its only running standard j4 springs and followers so i set it to 7400 but might move it to 7800

need to know what people run the J4 stuff to ?

ordering a new spring for the wastgate so will be able to turn it up but will have to run it as it is for the pod this weekend
583. #583
I love this car tbh! Gutted I won't be able to see it run!

Top guys at jams port as well always done me good deals on parts!

Irc I read in Ross's thread about him needing to shim his springs?
584. #584
cheers mate

yes solid lifters need shimming but i still run hydro ones
585. #585
martin, out of interest what kind of knock control/detection is jamie using?
586. #586
Power looks good, some run standard J4 sprngs/followers to 8000rpm.

No you can shim the seats of the springs too increase the poundage.
As he's still on hydro's too
Tbh I'll be going uprated with mine not because of revs but because of boost pushing the valves open. Seen it many times.

That doesnt increase the spring rate, it will however increase the seated force on the valve/seat. You would also have to check for spring travel to see how much you could shim the spring.
589. #589
Sorry yes I got abit confused there.

Seen alot if mappers not using any knock detection now

My mapper uses a lumenition set up.. Expensive and hard to find though,

Edit, well they were last time I looked.. Some on eBay and tweaks sell them too by the look of it
591. #591
Phormula KS4..... I had the KS3 for my scooby a while back they do a whole Tunerkit inc get cans for about £400 really good piece of kit when dialed in, other option old school, piece of 8mm copper pipe flattened and split at one end so it can be bolted to the head, block, then some silicon hose from it into the car, then a set of ear defenders and a y piece... drill a hole in each of the defenders, insert a 10 inch length of hose into each, join together with the Y then connect the piece from the car to it homemade stethoscope works a treat.... but you look a tit driving around with them on lol

Quite a lot of modern cars can display a real time knock count from the ecu with the right logging software, so det cans arent always needed, but on the standalone stuff its always best to have knock monitoring gear, det cans are best as they dont need calibrating for normal engine noise ect before use, cant beat hearing it for yourself on every pull imo, advanced ecu's come with knock control built in, but the dta generally it isnt really doable.
593. #593
Cracking result martin well done mate!

Any idea why power is trailing off at the top end though? Are you running completely stock j4 uppers? Cams etc? With my gt30 power was climbing on the limiter. Yours should too I thought.

I run catcam single springs (not shimmed or owt). Sinus valves and custom cams. Limiter is around 7750 iirc.

Really really pleased with that result for you mate - well done again!
594. #594
mark not sure what jamie uses apart from just listening for it

Ross its a JP4 ported head with J4 springs and followers and a j4 ex cam and j4 newmand PH3 inlet, it could be the cams that are trailing it off, there on custom timing marks so would love to get it back on the dyno and play with them or maybe get the turbo ex cam (ill see how it does in ians 16v ax when i finish buiilding that), it will still make more when i up the boost but for now im just going to drive it and get some use out of it

oh and next week im off to get the nitrous bottle filled
595. #595
I bet it's the overlap from that PH3 trailing off the boost. You might actually make more power with stock J4 cams you know. Worth experimenting if you've the dyno time for sure. The cat cams turbo spec cams are good too - they're what I made 400hp+ on and if you've seen that graph power is still climbing hard on the limiter.

Mind you - we're talking pub figures here because with your cars weight adding another 50hp is kinda pointless anyway - I'm not sure it'll be 50hp's "worth" faster whilst you're spinning through the gears
596. #596
My money would be on the exhaust housing not the cams

Im currently using a electronic det can and find it very useful, along with a copper det can as a back up. Just wondering what others use, and it seems the traditional ways are still the best in the aftermarket world. Good to know.

Can't speak for what others use, but the lumenition set up my mapper uses works great, clear and, loud alarm soon as any det occurs, and it runs the same knock sensor as an oe Saxo one, so simple plug and play

I wanted to get one for mine for piece of mind, but last time I looked i could only find stuff in America for £450-600

Tweaks seem to be selling them just shy of £400

But there's one on ebay now for £125, if anyone wants one that's a fucking steal
600. #600
It is a .63 housing but dont think thats the prob
The ph3 is more or less the same spec as the cat cam turbo inlet, ive got a feeling it might be the exhaust only being 2.5 inch or the exhaust cam not gettting it out as quick as the inlet gets it in
601. #601
I did the 400 on a 2.5" downpipe and exhaust. Not that :\ Weird one!
602. #602
Do you find problems with really high boost/revs combinations causing the valves to hang open because of the intake pressures? 30psi or so on the back of the valves at 7700rpm must be on the verge of floating the intake?

Edit: *awesome* car by the way

They were really doing their best aswell. Constantly trying to dry the track throughout the entire 2 days.
608. #608
So did you get a dry run Martin?
609. #609
Yes was there for both days, arrived at 8am and they tried to make me park in the weekend parking in a soggy field, with a fully loaded iveco van with trailer

I sacked off that idea and parked next to the rwyb pits, the weather was crap and i did get one run, although as i was about to line up the marshal told me noone has run 888's on the new track so be carfull if launching hard
Ive only driven this engine on gone off road tyres so didnt launch hard and changed to 2nd way too soon and bogged down so was neally half way down the strip before it boosted
Hence the crap 13.8@112

Plenty more to come with a better launch and some practice lol, the tyres are brand new and gripped alot more than i thought they would
610. #610

They were jipped because of the bad weather

I'm sorry, I totally missed the part of my statement above, where in any part of it did I say santanpod were the cause of or to blame for the bad weather!?
614. #614
Assumption I guess from all the comments I've seen that basically expect pod to be able to control the weather, or let them run on a wet track when they have no idea how slippy it is with the slightest bit of moisture.
So I apologise.

The surface is no where near ready yet really, an I think it'll be a couple of months before we see some good times on it. I have seen some one spun his 9 inch wide drag slicks most of the track.
615. #615
Yeah I I've heard a lot of twisting, risk you take with shows really

Car looks and sounds spot on martin

For having a slow start it still ran a pretty good time IMO, easy shave a lot off that with a bit more time driving it
616. #616
not done alot with the car due to bad weather recently
i did raise the rear 40mm as it was sat way to low at the back and swapped the B8 rears for some GAZ adjustables

ventured back to the pod on sat for the RWYB day prior to RS day as a mate was running his vauxhall powerd mk1 escort so thought id get some track time in myself
1st run being a 13.1 @116 then 13.5@117, 12.8@118, 12.7@115
then
12.69@112.77

after that run it deveopled a missfire and i had no tools to try and sort it as i towed it up with my e class not the van so loaded it back on the trailer and sat and watched the racing

my launches were getting better so with a bit of practice its got a low 12 in in for sure, and thats with toyo 888's in full road spec, no cheating drag tyres

i did do a run at the end of the day in the tow car for a laugh but held it in the revs on the foot brake on the line and overheated the auto box so the ecu shut it down at 1/8th a mile so was left sitting there for 10 secs untill it would restart lol

in all the years ive been at the pod ive never lost a race, 1 st 3 were against a civic type r, i stopped after run 3 and let him race someone else so he would have a chance of beating someone
then raced a 5 door 206 then a guy in a 360bhp K tec turbo 182, he was quite cocky saying how fast is was, think he ran a 15.2 to my 12.6

Good times martin, whats the date for the next event your thinking of going to?? Might have to get my box sorted and have a run down.
622. #622
need to sort the missfire 1st, i turned the boost up a bit on sat and was still running the plugs it was mapped on, its melted one of them and with a new set of plugs still has a missfire and low comp on a cyl when starting so need to get the head off

hopefully its a bit of plug holding a valve open and not damage to a piston, i only turned it up to 25psi and had the water /meth on

623. #623

Well the head is off and melted a valve on 3 with a slight mark on top of the piston but could of been much worse, sachshift should be here this week and a water/meth controler so i can get it mapped to 30psi with wmi, ive also got a gizmo ibc-r which can control boost to rpm
Should see over 400bhp then i have nos to go on top

Great car!!!
627. #627
Small update time, been so busy this last 6 weeks not had time to spend on the ax but did get a couple of hours this week

The sachshift is designed to fit behind standard vt sax brace bars but on a saxo they can be unbolted, on mine they are welded on

This means the sach has to be cut and welded to fit

Other bugger is the sach passes through my dash, right where one of the fuse boxes was, i moved the box but the hole didnt look right so making a new dash

Old one

New one

Also bought a flow meter and controler for the WMI so can make the most of it with the map

And got a good deal on some new pads

On top of that i have a boost control valve that will be wired to the ecu and a speed sensor for a rear wheel so i can set boost in gear in the map so wont be launching with full power which will help lower times at the pod
Also got some poly rear windows coming
Plan is to get it all done and mapped so i can get to japshow at pod in sept and run a little bit of nos and see what she does
628. #628
I wasnt happy with my rubber fuel lines and brass fittings, they worked but didnt like the idea of jubilee clips and 5 bar of fuel pressure

Custom made PTFE braided fuel lines with AN fittings

Fitted with my custom alloy fuel rail

Engine all back together

And the flow sensor fitted for the water/meth controler

Also now have what i beleive is the 1st 6 speed sachshift

629. #629
Martin, have you seen my bmx front brake? When I got my bike back the other day it was missing...
630. #630
dammit, I wanted to do a 6 speed TU-BE satchshift
631. #631
I see its a jp4 head --what plugs you running?
and what water temp?
632. #632
looks excellent Martin!

I had the first BE satchshift - looks like you've pipped me to the six speed version lol!

Really looks good mate - looking forward to seeing it running properly.
633. #633
There denso ikh 24 john (heat range 8)

On the road it normally sits about 90ish, even driving hard on track doesnt go over 100
It gets hot if sat running as the fan is too small but as long as its kept moving its ok
I think the problem with the valve was due to 5 consecutive runs with no cooldown inbetween then being hel on the line for 5 mins allowing the water to get to 110, i should of done a slow run to cool down but i gave it hell, got a 12.6 and popped it lol

Cheers ross dying to get it back n the road now, got a few more bits to wire in then off to steve for mapping

Im using the old dash, will be going back in on sat along with the new toys that need wiring in
Wmi controller that will shut down the boost controller when it sees a water fault which will revert back to gate pressure (11psi)

Rear axle speed sensor so i can program in gear boost and use the traction control

Electric boost control for different boost levels in each gear

TPS box for the nitrous and wire in the map switch to automatically swith to the nitrous map when the maximiser is switched on

Steering wheel buttons for NOS, launch control and engine start button

Also just ordered some evans waterless coolant to use instead of water/antifreeze
Hopefully will help the fact it has such a small fan, the down side being with the prep fluid its £150
634. #634
oh PLEASE remember to message me when it's going to steves - I'm off work for a while at the moment so will 100% come down and see you and have a catch up

I have the evans stuff but haven't run the engine up yet so cant report back - but internet reviews seem very good. Hope it helps you.
635. #635
Im hoping for friday the 20th of sept, just waiting for steve to get back to me
636. #636
So what are the advantages and disadvantages of the 6 speed over the 5 speed box then?
637. #637
Disadvantage is you cant change ratios or final drive, the 6 speed is made with paired gears so cant be swapped
And there is only 2 final drives, 4.02 for a gti6 and 3.9 for the rallye

The advantage for me is the t34 is quite laggy (not on full boost till 4.1k)
The 6 speed keeps it in the power all the time and cruising at 80mph its only doing 2.4k rpm

Its prob a bit short for drag use ( i have a 5 speed ill play about with for that) but its awsome on the road with no lag
The main reson i fitted the 6 speed was to see if it could be done, i like a challenge
638. #638
its not a wallye/gti6 thing the different ratios, but an early/late thing.
1 user thanked this post:
639. #639
Ill have to have a look at what mine is, didnt bother checking when i fitted the atb

It feels very short geared at the pod, over the line in 4th @ 112 but pulls past 160mph on the road
640. #640
Sorry if this is answered before but what box are you running and how did you fit 6 gears in if its a BE/MA(coop box?)
641. #641
So are the ratios shorter? If so would that not induce more wheel spin??
642. #642
Its a longer fd than most.

Its a be3 or 4/6 from a gti6/rallye with a tu- be4 bellhousing bolted on plus mods.
643. #643
As welshpug says, its a picasso be4 conversion( done properly so sat level)
But then ive modded the box to takea gti6 gearbox
644. #644
Its alive

Dash all back in and wired up

Engine ECU now controls boost electronically, and the boost solenoid powers throught the water/meth controler so if the water flow stops or the level sensor in the tank detects low water it cut power and drops down to 10 psi, its also linked so a speed sensor so i can set different boost levels in each gear

Aswell as that i fitted a potentiometer to the EcU to control the traction control, it can turn TC off or i can vary the agresiveness from hard to soft

Also have the launch control button on the steering wheel so can hold the rpm at a preset level while the button is depressed or set the launch and it will turn off automatically once a certain road speed is aceived

I wosh now though i had put the pot on the steering wheel, the start button is now on the wheel though as being on the dash ment if i stalled the car while i have the harness on i had to unbuckle to start the car again, now its easy and also means once the steering wheel is removed the car cant be started
1 user thanked this post:

Very good Martin.
Have you got speed sensors on all four wheels? Is the traction control through the Ecu?
646. #646
No just one rear wheel, it works out slip by comparing rpm to road speed
Cuts spark when it senses slip but can change how harsh it cuts
Ive only got the s60 so its the only way it can do it, the s80 and s100 use all 4 wheels

Just need to play with it all now, and work out how to up the boost lol

Even off boost stil felt good to be driving it again

Apart from a fucked thermostat, ax made dt and back with no issues although did play with the launch control and even in the wet it awsome, can pull away cleanly with 300 bhp in the pissing rain
Needs more power though, i was only running a bar of boost and struggled to keep up with ians 700bhp 911,
Past 120 he was pulling away but did pull to just over 160mph
There are traces of smoke so i think the valve letting go in the summer has damaged the block again

Not much has happened with the ax since dt, shes tucked away in her new home

Im in the process at the mo of moving workshops so dec and jan wont give me any time on the car as ill be moving and painting and sorting out the paper work for the 2 mot bays, class 4 cars and class 1 and 2 motor bikes

I have though bought some new tyres, my rear 888's were worn and needed new ones but as there crap for drag, wont get any track use and only good for 150mph and would cost £240 for 2
I opted for these

W rated bridgstones so good for 170mph and all 4 cost £200

My plan was to change the block over winter but noone can get me rings for my wossners so 2014 ill be running the engine as it is but with a 5 speed box and the nos

I do have a new jp4 block but the plan is during 2014 ill build the new engine to use in 2015 and aim to get the car in to the FWD series at santa pod

Snaped a driveshaft at fast show in march
Not done much with he car,im taking it ti the ring in aug with saxp so havent been driving it incase i break it lol

I have fixed the shaft and been out a few times, cooked the brakes against a 911 so bought these

300mm floating discs, alloy bells and braided lines

Also bought another toy, 167mph and 10.8 1/4 mile straight out the box

1998 GSXR SRAD 750, polished frame and custom paint job

I have been having a few ideas on this

White carbon looks cool brakes are awesome ....I'll get them sent tomorrow
662. #662
Looks like back to the drawing board on the brakes
The will wood setup were bought from manwhore who posted above, the bells, rotors and caliper brackets dont fit so a complete waste of money

Be carefull anyone who buys from him

Is that nothing to do with you using the BE hub setup?

saw this come past us early on Thursday the 14th as we were trundling down the motorway towards the channel tunnel in the Frontera towing a Red saxo kitcar.

This one

I was on my way to ashford for the saxp ring trip

Was an awesome trip

I stupidly over over adjusted the clutch ans as i didnt get my new rad back from pro alloy untill just before we left it ment i didnt get time to test the car
This ment the clutch was making a noise by the time i got to ashford
My sensible head said go home
So i continued on with the trip and made it to the ring, did 3 laps and on the final corner of lap 3 the clutch let go loosing all drive
The marshals allowed us to push the car off track as we rolled under the gantry lol
So the car spent the day in the car park

My mood on the day was lifted by an 8:30 lap in josh's mental mango

My car was left at the hotel for the week while i got a lift home with ross in the rs4
Then went back the follwing week with a trailer to bring her home

669. #669
Thats the one!
670. #670
Aww dissapointed man? Car looks well though
671. #671
Just read this from start to finish. And erm.... Wow. I applaud the work you've done on this. Nothing is done half heartedly at all. I remember the feature in this in Pfc and it's always been a favourite out of all the feature cars. Just amazing. Well done sir.

Cheers duffy

Ive kind of fallen out of love with the car since getting by bike but even though it broke the trip has made me love it again, it handled beter than i thought it would at the ring but did show up how laggy it is
Never been that bothered as its a drag car but over winter it will get a new turbo and exhaust to make it more responsive, then back to germany next year

Yeah I fell out of low with my pug but I'm gettin the low for it again now. Just need to get my turbo. Just running it on decomp plate and a cast mani. No figure chasing but something that'll give the local honda lads down at our local drag place a shock.

tweeqd, was the bike brake lever conversion for the lift up reverse sucessful?

me and a mate were discussing the 6 speed conversion last night and as i have a satch shift it seems i'd have to do the same as you.

cheers

aidy
676. #676
yes and yes, the bike lever works a treat and cost about £7 from eBay

well got her apart to properly asses the damage from the ring

stripped all the splines clean out of both friction plates, so clutch has gone back to AP for repair

also decided to play with the engine a little while the box was out, this has got a little out of hand lol
a customer was selling his 0 miles engine cheap so i naturally had that off him

brand new woosner pistons 1mm oversize, j4 block bored to match, brand new forged PEC rods

it also came with a balanced crank and heavily ported j4 head with 3 angle valves but ill flog these on

my crank is balanced to my flywheel so swapped that in to the new block

pugsprt sump baffle

blasted mounts back on

new ARP head stud conversion to stop the head lifting with boost and NOS

brand new ACL race spec main and big end bearings

also the powder coating company next to me has just bought an aqua blaster so i got a bit carried away with that lol

while I'm upgrading i thought it would be rude not to look at the turbo, again got carried away so bought this
an Owen developments GT2865HTA billet wheeled turbo

good for 430bhp and will spool 1k rpm earlier than the T34, with the getting carried away I thought if I've gone this far might swell carry on so I've ordered some mechanical spec turbo cat cams, spring, caps, shims and solid lifters.
this will allow me to rev to 8.5-9k RPM

im also swapping to a 3'' exhaust but there is no room under the car so it will be a single box system exiting out the front where the screamer pipe is, allowing me to run a completely flat floor and rear diffuser

all in all it should see an easy 400bhp (will be pegged at that to try and keep it reliable), the much bigger power band means i can spread the torque so it should be less harsh on the drivetrain, i still the now to put in on top which ill use for the strip but all the other mods should make it a much better road/track car
677. #677
Always thought this would be a laggy beast with that turbo.
Very good choice with the new turbo. I had a 2868HTA with TiAL .60 housing, was an extremely responsive turbo with the hydraulic Cat Cams I had. Would've easily made 400bhp. My next step is Solid lifters and more revs after a gear kit.
678. #678
yes hoping the 2865hta will be responsive, what rpm did your turbo come in?
I've got my solid lifters and cams on the way so will see what the turbo does at 8.5k lol
679. #679
There was a graph on here somewhere, it spooled earlier than a GT2860RS and the response of the turbo was pretty much instant. I have Cat Cams Turbo cams (not 735's) and standard size valves with Terry Dolphin headwork. So the head set up was geared for maximum response.
Don't know how big wild cams will effect it though, but Solid lifters and big revs is something I will be interested in.
680. #680
I've gone for sinus valves and the gold spec springs with the mech lifter spec turbo cams so will see how it responds above 9k
I've got a feeling past 8 won't make a diff but as it will safely go past 9 ill give it a go
9k should also make the top speed quite interesting on the 6 speed
681. #681
I want the solid lifters for bigger power band, not so violent torque delivery and for a higher top speed. Mine does 161 and hits it like a brick wall! Will be annoying when chasing bikes and big stuff!
682. #682
That's what I'm hoping for, spread the torque and save the box/shafts

And for top speed, I've had 169 and bottled it chasing a 911 turbo

I'd like to be able to have genuine 170-175 capability. Another 1000rpm should do it.
684. #684
more shine parts have arrived
complete refurb from AP, all new apart from my alloy cover

685. #685
tweeqd, you might be the man to answer this, when going BE on a TU can we use the Tu clutch and a BE release bearing or do i need a BE spec clutch?

i'm currently on a 180mm s1 rallye clutch and fly ya see.

cheers

aidy
686. #686
keep the clutch you have
you can use the TU clutch and just use a standard BE bearing
687. #687
slow progress on the car at the mo, dead busy at work so ax takes a back seat

cat cams have sent me 27mm exhaust valves and not the standard size 26mm so th head has gone off to have the seats machined to take the bigger valves.
another delay in the engine build #-o

i have now sorted the exhaust issue, a 3'' system won't fit past a MK1 ARB and sachshift so my system no longer goes under the car, I've had a custom box made by EDWARDS MOTORSPORT

I've made a 3'' stainless downpipe that this fits on to and sticks out the front bumper, not heard it yet but I've got a feeling it will be loud

screamer pipe will be moved up so will exit just above this, the box downpipes and manifold are all going off for ceramic coating

some parts of the new fuel system arrived today
OBP swirl pot
Bosch 044 pump
sytec billet pump clamp
Torques filter and various AN fittings

also thought the header tank looked out of place bing polished alloy so its been white carbon dipped
688. #688
So needs updating
