As above does anyone have any pictures or ways of differentiating the two?
How to tell the difference between a 90 bhp vtr engine and a 98 model

#290bhp is black rocker cover, 98bhp is silver/grey

Some good reading for you! basically a dummies guide haha -
#5quickest way to tell is the location of the oil dipstick, 90's its on the right 98s its on the left (drivers side) and has a sensor going into the top of the manifold, (think its a sensor)
-
#690hp has an ecu with 1 long plug on. 98hp model has the ecu with 3 small plugs on. simple.
-
#7Its pretty much all mk2 vtrs are 98bhp and mk1 are 90. There are some of the last mk1 which have 98bhp though because they made the new engine just before they did the face lift
-
#10O ryt yer. They did the facelift before they did the Enine. sorry
-
#11Also the first post of silver/black top is wrong.
Black tops were 90bhp, first silver tops were 90bhp and the mk2 engines are still a silvertop but have 98bhp.
90bhp engines ahve the cat under the car and single plug ecu
98bhp engines have the cat in the manifold and 3 plug ecu.
There was no exact change over date due to late registrations etc.. -
#12The easiest way yould have been to search as its been covered many times, this would also stop a thread created and being filled with crappy incorrect information.
As already said:
98bhp
3 plug ECU
Cat in manifold
Dip stick on right hand side
There the easiest ways of telling the difference
