106 rallye inlet manifold on black top vtr

  1. #1
Plain and simple would a 106 rallye phase1 inlet manifold fit on my black top 97 vtr block?

Equally if it fits would it run?

also can i get a head off one of the various pug's for my vtr and gain anything from it?
  2. #2
everyone is starting to do this i take it they have got bigger dimater inlets

duno mate i would epect so just make sure you got all the same senosrs that can be connected with the ones you have.

airflow sensor, throttle postion sensor, air temp sensor

this has been covered many times mate, search as theres alot of opinions on it.

it fits but making it run ok is another thing
  4. #4
well im sure i can use some bodge tape and t-cut it so it works haha.

i cant see why it would work and run fine, its got all the same sensors and i imagine the ecu would be able to correct the air fuel mixture

it doesnt have the same sensors as such, you need to tap the inlet to fit the map sensor to it etc.

its NOT! a bolt on job! there is a fair bit of playing.

    research on the rallye reg.

and ive had an s2 engine with s1 inlet so seem the bodgery that goes on
  6. #6
well ive got the inlet sat in my garage so i think its time to get out the hammer and crack on
  7. #7
as i said its the wiring, check how to do it before just bolting it on

    cheers buddy... rep given

look at a thread bout a week ago as i asked near enought the same question...there are picks and stuff

ok dont know if this has been put on here before but hope it helps. first off this was writin by somebody else i have no experience of this and its being fitted to a 1.6 8v s2 rallye engine. enjoy.

(if its any good maybe it could be put somewhere as a reference)

Right, so this is how i did it, and i get a smooth start up, idle at 1200rpm, and a very nice sounding car. Not to mention the extra go!

    These are the parts required:

    1.3 inlet
    1.3 throttle body
    1.3 accelerator cable
    2 x gaskets for 1.3 manifold
metal sheed to make a plate out of
    1/4" steel rod
    Induction kit for a citroen C2 vtr/vts
    S2 icv
    Pipercross oil breather
    11.5mm drill bit
air tool fitting nipple and appropriate size tap ( cant remember what mine is, can find out later, think its 1/4" BSP)
Assorted rubber tubing (most of which can salvage from bits taken off.
Household copper pipe, and elbow (for oil breather)

So you will start off with an engine like this:

And hopefully a pile of parts looking something like this:

    1. Remove all of the old manifold and associated inlet parts, but leave all of the injectors etc on.

And you should end up with a pile looking like this:

    2. Drill into the 1.3 inlet plenum, and tap the air fitting connection into it (use 11.5mm drill bit and the tap), use ptfe tape to get a nice tight seal.

The S2 ics tubeing it too big to fit onto the new nipple, so insert a smaller piece of tubing into the originonal S2 tube, and hose clamp up.

Pipe should fit on nicely now.

    3. Fit the manifold to the car, remembering to put the gaskets on at the same time! leave the throttle bodu off for now though as you need to modify it.

    4. Measure and cut out a plate to fir over where the stepper motor went on the throttle body, and fit. Use gasket sealent to make sure its airtight.

    5. You need to fill in the hole where the old stepper motor used to draw air from inside the throttle body. To do this i used some 1/4" (i think) bar, cut it off at an angle.

I used araldite to secure it in place.

    6. Thats the throttle body all modified now, so its ready to be fitted. Mate it up to the manifold, and if you want to be really thorough, use some gasket sealant between the joins.

Plug in all of the wires, leaving them as they are.

One one of the nipple on the manifold, you need to plug the map sensor in. Now further down near the injector rail, is a T piece where the map sensor tubeing splits into two. Take the old small elbow piece of tube off that used to fit onto the old S2 manifold, and replace it with a length of ruber tube. fir this to the nipple.

On the other nipple, you need the fuel tank vapour pipe. Again, there is a join in this where there is an elbow on it. Remove the elbow are replace with a suitable length of pipe, and attach it to the remainging nipple on the manifold.

The final tube to attatch is the break servo vacuum hose. This attached on the large nipple low down on the right hand side of the manifold. Use hose clip to secure in place.

    7. I bought a citroen C2 pipercros inductino kit from halfords for this conversion, one because it was cheap (Reduced from £85 to £32!) and two, because it contained a 90 degree elbow which fitted the s1 tb, and three, it has a connrction on the filter which the icv pipe can be attached to.

So, you need to shave the edges off the ends of the elbow until it sits on at the right angle. THen take the old joining piece that was between the S2 airbox and the inlet piping by the radiator, and cut the very end off. Insert a piece of metal tubing into the plastic tube to stop it from getting crushed when a hose clip is put around it. I then forced the filter into the other end (very tight fit, may need to cut a couple of slits in the plastic) and put it all together, so it looked something like this:

Then you just need to attach the icv pipe:

Once thats been done, fit the new accelerator cable, and the oild breather, and your away!

fantastic cheers buddy!!! rep coming your way aswell
  12. #12
not a problem mate as long as it helps
  13. #13
is it really worth doing this?
  14. #14
well definatly for the noise, and it's a challenge. You could ask that question to everything eg is it worth changing the exhuast, wheels, ect

Its just something i personally would like to do
  15. #15
i know where there's a s1 inlet for sale like steve
  16. #16
where how much? my mate needs another for his s1 rallye

depends on what you are doing weith the engine, for boosted engines id deffo get one as it will hold boost better at higher pressure than a plastic inlet without the risk of splitting
  18. #18
they are less restrictive id imagine aswell

but sometimes 'restrictive' is what you need, you need to keep gas speeds up to help with combustion. so thats why fitting 50mm throttle bodies on a 1400 for example is overkill!
  20. #20
yer but it is a vtr, and to be fair its a sack of shit so cant really go wrong. i will just have to save for a new one
  21. #21
    here u go tom

S1 rallye alloy Inlet with throttle body and sensors £70

its in gateshead if ur interested pm me
  22. #22
i wouldnt waste your time to be honest. i did this on my s2 engine, had no end of hassle with all sorts of stuff. it was on a week or maybe two and i took it back off again. it WILL need a remap tho no matter what, no excuses. i got mine down to 16mpg due to it running wrong. we also discovered the throttle body is no bigger than the s2 one. if you want to go quicker fit bike carbs

    edit.
the lad who did the guide posted above ended up swapping to throttlebodies afer a couple of months and is now onto super charging his car. so it oviously didnt go too well
  23. #23
nice one aidy i didnt know the full story behind it.
  24. #24
that has swayed my opinions now, think i will give it a miss as i cant really afford a remap.

Is there anything i can do to my current inlet to make it better? i just really want something to do to my car that isn't going to cost me too much money. ie under £30

yes learn to drive it better.

    powaaaaa doesnt come cheap.

i dont mean power, i mean in general, impulse buying and as for learning to drive it better you havent seen me drive

if you were the worlds best driver you wouldnt just be a saxo driver.
everyone has room to improve how to drive a car, if you dont think you do you are very nieve
  28. #28
of course there is always areas to improve in, if i was brilliant then i wouldnt be sat here i'd be off round the world racing.

i appreciate my last post did read like i was a big headed nob who can do everything perfectly.
