Hid Kit with mk2 angel eyes? Anyone mind showing how to hook it all up?

  1. #1
This is my 1st thread btw (WHEY) lool,

anyways, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on conecting up a hid kit with MK2 angel eyes?

i know that you have 2 seperate H1 bulbs instead of your single H4 bulb, but obviously it still comes under your 1 conection back to your car

haven't installed the angel eye's yet, when i do, i should get some pics up here for peoples to see.

Im just puzzled to how it's going to connect up. so that the Full beam and dipped can still work induvidualy?

Can it be done (even if it becomes a D.I.Y job) or am i just having a DUMB moment? lool

    Can anyone help me please

all advise will taken on board.

    THANKS

im pretty sure that the heat of the hids melt the front plastic lens of the angels. which is why people havent done it, also that the angels have two bulbs not one like the standard light fitting.

yes i have heard and looked into the Myth about Hids melting the front plastic housing and According to the guy i bought the angels off, he said that New models of HId kits actualy produce less heat than a standard halogen bulb, and if they were to produce some heat, then i need make the HID kit is UV cut.

Needless to say, i dnt 100% everything he will tell me cos at the end of the day, he's a sales man

and yeah if you see above where i already know about the two H1 bulbs insted of your single H4, that leads me to my original question and problem, i dnt know how to get round that single conncetion to hook up a HID kit. i want to do it (at my own risk of corse taking into thought of the whole melting issue)

    cheers for the comment though

Here's the guide on fitting MK2 angel eyes. http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98904

Then after that guide, you want to replace the Main Beam (Low beam, dipped beam, passing beam, meeting beam - call it what you like it's the Normal Headlight that's in the projector unit) with the H1 HID kit - so have the wires that normally go to that bulb going to the Ballast instead.

And the stuff I post in any Angles & HID thread:

The bit that melts on angel eyes is the actual plastic front of the headlights. I think the rings will melt as well, but they aren't the main problem.

The cause of the melting isn't the heat, but the UV in the HID kit.

Generally speaking; a cheap eBay HID kit will not be UV protected (so will cause melting) but an expensive HID kit will be UV protected and therefore is fine to use.

    From wikipedia:
    Quote:
Most HID lamps produce significant UV radiation, and require UV-blocking filters to prevent UV-induced degradation of lamp fixture components and fading of dyed items illuminated by the lamp. Exposure to HID lamps operating with faulty or absent UV-blocking filters causes injury to humans and animals, such as sunburn and arc eye. Many HID lamps are designed so as to quickly extinguish if their outer UV-shielding glass envelope is broken.
    For example:
Autobulbs Direct say that "All the bulbs on our website including HID and high wattage bulbs are UV protected to ensure they are compatible with plastic headlights. The addition of Xenon gas does not cause the bulbs to be hotter than standard bulbs. The only reason you would cause any damage to your headlights with bulbs is if they are poor quality and have no UV protection."
HIDS4U say on certain product pages "The bulbs have been UV cut to prevent damage to plastic lenses".

"Xenon Look" bulbs (not the HID Xenons that cars come with these days) are usually 'just' a new gas composition and adapted pressure, but are brighter by about 80/90% and whiter than the halogen standard bulbs (obviously not as good as HID lamps with a ballast and gas-discharge bulbs though). Philips X-Treme Power and Osram Night Breaker are two good brands, and are fine in Saxo Angel Eye headlamps.

Nope, I haven't got Angels or HIDs on mine. Just read up a fair bit when thinking of doing it but then never actually got round to buying them!
