I think lad above meant he sold his VTS for a 1.4 106, and a vts aint all that. Maybe...could be wrong

I think he means dont bother putting a VTS into a VTR cos he has just gone from a VTS to a 1.4 and he cant tell the difference.

I dont know, you've confused me now aswell

    Why would you do that?

I mean that yes there is a difference but its not worth doing in my opinion as i can drive just as fast (as long as its not a long straight road) on most given roads as i could in the vts.

The main difference is in the 1.4 you put your foot down and you can sort of feel the torque and power straight away whereas you put your foot down in the 16v and nothing happens till you are past 4k rpm.

How can it put it simply and quickly?

For the money you might spend on converting the car i know its a cliche but first i would sort the handling and braking side of things out first as gen-up seriously this will make the car faster.

Yes your mates 1.8 corsa may still be faster in a straight line and yes you will be annoyed when ths subaru's and that fly past you but they will do that when you have a vts anyway.

Sort the handling out and with your 100 or so horsepower you can reach say 70mph and MAINTAIN that speed on all types of roads whereas your 120bhp car will reach that 70mph and then have to slow for a corner and brake or both etc etc etc

People say it all the time but this WILL make you faster. I remember having the VTR and saying that i needed 200bhp in it to keep up with modern cars but this was when i was about 23 and couldn't drive very well at all.

Have you looked into driving tuition at all as this can make you safer and faster than that extra 20bhp will give you and it will be cheaper too!

Im trying to offer you my genuine and experienced advice here. People im sure will jump on me and slate me for trying to say a 1.4 106 is as good as a vts etc but im not saying that. I've driven a 1.1 106 a 1.4 106 a 1.6 8v saxo and a 1.6 16v saxo for long periods of time so i know what im on about. Please don't waste money before thinking about it first.

We all make mistakes and we only learn by doing them but here you could just not make the mistakes i made. I honestly should have mildly tuned my 8v and whacked in a cage, decent brakes and suspension, buckets and got some tuition.

    Hope this helps.

personally i think its worth the money if its what you want, but to be fair theres 100's of people on here that have done s conversions and i rekon 99% dont regret it, everyone likes power, for the say £700 u would pay for that 20 hp in a VTR you can get an s engine for under £100, then pay that 700 and see a hell of a lot more gain than you would spending it on a vtr..

iv owned a VTR, converted it to an S, never regretted it, now driving a genuine S, better engine providing you want power, and by this dude wanting to convert his car, im assuming he wants more power?

Yes of course an s engine will always make more power but you don't really need power to go fast.

    Lotus Elise/Exige are prime examples.

and because i like videos i'll throw this one in

I do agree on the handling side of things, my friend a couple years ago had a civic 1.4 5 door hatch, lowered, s drive tyres, new pads and discs braided hoses strut brace and on a b road he would be keeping up with a mate in a standard celica gt. Improved handling, brakes and suspension etc would see you with a quicker all round car.

    Safer and fuel efficient too

i agree mate but its doubtful scoobys will be passing my car

ASLONG AS ITS NOT ME DRIVING!!

its for my brother really, he has a vtr but wants to do the s conversion along with piper cams 4-1 mani etc. he wants to go bodies aswel.

im not to clued up on the vtr to S conversions so thought i would check it out and atleast then i can give him an idea.

    thanks people
