xsara vts engine in saxo

me and my mate are thinking of putting the xsara 2.0 vts engine in my vtr has anyone done this and does anyone know how much work it would be?

massive amount of work, engine bay is the wrong shape, its too wide and too deep as it usually sits.

if you want a non tu lump then an EW is a better bet, or Honda.

as above buddy! Its like with the pug 106 everyones been saying to me to stick a gti6 lump in there... Not quite that simple! Also would most likely have a negative effect on the handling.

okay so what engine would you recommend then something not to hard and lots of power as going to sell golf and keep the saxo

go for the 1.6 16v engine from a vts is the most popular, or the tu5jp4 from a 206/c2 etc etc as you can pick them up with very low mileage. Anyway you then want to decide what your budget is as that will govern how much power to aim for whilst keeping the car reliable. Tuning wise, for sub £2000 or there abouts you can go ITB's and ph3 cams or similar, which seem to acheive in the region of 165hp atf once mapped up. Or i you have a bigger budget you can go boost, basically i you've got like 4-5k plus to spend you can go all out forged engine and acheive big power!

I've just heard stick to the 1.6vts

AUG 1.8t would be my lump of choice if I were looking for power. Stick with the TU5 engines though - they're good (well, good for up to around 500hp)... If you want to be different, then lob something else in, but there's a lot to be had from the trusty TU

Checkout this thread dude. Probably if I will swap my default engine with a bigger than the TU5J4/JP4 maybe my choice will be one of these: Xsara VTS 2.0 engine or Mi16. But I think that it's a waste of money and time. I think the TU engine is better for a small car just you need to upgrade it.

TU has a big problem, it's gearbox.. No simple/cheap way round this.

Go for a duratec engine, very light and LOTS of off the shelf parts

That's a Zetec, another option.. Could use a focus RS engine.. 350hp no problem.. And a gearbox that won't break every other day

With a decent amount of power a BE box won't last that's long..

also does a BE box it straight onto a tu engine?

if you find the right one yes.
